Oh, yes that`s true. Maybe she wants to see the place where a murder took place. It seems to be a dark place. Perhaps she found a screwdriver in front of the building and thought "I will take this to have an opportunity to protect myself...maybe the murderer is still around.".

Otherwise it could be that she as a murderer just came from murdering someone when she almost missed the phantom.

And when the phantom usually sees her alone at home and normally not on the street - where could the phantom see her together with the murdered person?! Maybe at the place where she murdered someone. And who could observe a murder?! Probably a phantom.

but why does he say that he's used to see her at home?
and then he says that he's changed or something?

when Sue goes into the house to find billy and she finds Julia Ormond and when she says she loves him she hits her again and again. that reminds me of QK.

'...but why does he say that he's used to see her at home?...'

'cause she's his wife, I would say.

'...where could the phantom see her together with the murdered person?! ...'
It seems to me
EITHER
1)not so important where,as that they were engaged in adultery ( if the murdered person referred to is the mustached man with whom she is having an affair)
OR
2) that she murdered the 'other woman' ( dunno if this is the Doris/Ormond person ) and was observed doing the murder.

I incline toward the first alternative.

Probably because he usually visits her at home as a "suitor". We have that scene where they talk about the way how it shall be. It`s probably her home.

Yes I think they talk about being upset. And he asks her if he shouldn`t be upset. She says no but that he looks like that. So why shouldn`t he be upset? Maybe because he shouldn`t see the murder?

What exactly reminds you on QK there and why? And are you sure that it is Sue whom we see there and not Nikki?

And would you assume then that the mustached man would have been killed by the phantom?

I don`t know it neither. Tend to Nikki. But it could also be Sue, the monolog woman or Lost Girl.

Yes, we see the one with the mustache dead. If he`s really dead we probably cannot know. Maybe it is an imagination of the woman in white or a fear of Lost Girl or someone`s dream.

Thanks for that link! That's wonderful! Yes, the scene is very similar. Also I notice how it fits into both SB and IE in the settings.

That made me think: Yes, we know who he is and that he was murdered. But we don't know who else because it isn't clear who the dead woman in the black dress is. That shot of her appears in both the Polish and American parts.

Yes, those are great art. But I only know not so many: Metropolis, Nosferatu and Queen Kelly, for example.

i actually enjoy this very much. i just watched some of the film again (because after the 4th time, i watch it half and then other half, the end first the beginning after, etc) so there are many things i don't know. for instance about the murders and the time 9:45 or after midnight. the whole thing seems very familiar though.
btw, i had the chance to play my dvd on a very good big screen and the sound...man! it made the windows shatter!

Yeah, the sound design rules in IE. There is , I guess, a clear advantage in Digital over Film, here.
On the other hand, as striking as many of the images are, the visual quality is merely-adequate-to-very-poor, imo.
On a related note: DL, in one of the bonus features, says that it's easier to edit in digital video.
**Perhaps QK will come around on TCM ( almost everything does, sooner or later). The stuff on the Link above was very digitalized and cleaned up.
The silent film I most want to see restored remains Metropolis. The decades old, on-going project to recover lost footage continues, it seems, but it'll be astounding luck to find substantially more. What an epic!
Also, I've yet to see the restored Intolerance.

I was a little bit surprised about the pentagram. It was interesting to see what effects were possible in that time.
