i' ll check out "intolerance", from the same director i've seen "Broken Blossoms" which was a bit depressing to be honest.
but Fritz Lang is definitely a master. i have seen "Scarlet Street" also which isn't silent but it's a really nice story.
Ah, yes, the scene with the whip. I guess that I was too fascinated by that looooooong hair of Gloria Swanson to draw parallels to IE.
it's similar in a very general way i guess.
there's no point to say that this idea was based on that or the other.
but when you watch a silent film today, it has a weird feeling since we are so used to other kind of movies. not to mention that all who're starring are dead now
