After many years of thinking about it I finally got down to reading Pillars of the Earth. This morning I finished Part 1 and currently I'll jump to the years 1136/1137. Great experience :D A great book, it seems, too!

I enjoyed Pillars.... Haven't read the sequel. I did not care for the TV adaptaion at all; Swingen was silly as the evil cleric.
ot I'm slowly reading Great Expectations. I like many of its adaptations, though none are truly faithful to the story.

For many people that would mean very slow reading, for me it's quite a good pace. The book is great! I love Middle Ages!

Almost finished with Sailor and Lula: The Complete Novels. If you like Barry Gifford or have already read Wild at Heart, this is amusing, not great reading, but fun.

Well, finished that book. Am now back to rereading Ayn Rand. I really need to get to the library...

This week I ordered Crimea (UK title) by Orlando Figes. His book on the Russian revolution was outstanding.

Oh, my nephews are really into those books!! I used to read everything they read, like Harry Potter, etc., but decided some are too much for kids, IMO.

I read the Harry Potter books a few times when I was a kid

Game of Thrones is definitely adult orientated, if you've seen the great HBO show you'd know.

Iain M. Banks' new Culture novel The Hydrogen Sonata (just delivered at my front door)

Highly recommended SF series if you are left leaning and hate immoral rampant capitalism, conservatives, and religious nutters.

I started reading Dune last night, but feel I made a mistake buying the book. Just another SF writer whose prose stinks? Finishing this would have been too much of a struggle.

I agree with you a bit there about Dune, but I managed to finish the book. Not interested in the rest of the series though.

I recently finished reading The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, which is pretty over rated in my opinion, but an easy read.

Also Franz Kafka's The Trial, I thought it was decent, but then when I got to near the end it became brilliant. There are a few conversations that are extremely deep and memorable.

Just finished:

It was great! An awesomely creepy coming-of-age tale and a proper 'ripping yarn'.

About to start:

James Herbert - Ash

Was great reading his new book, still my favourite author.

Philip K. Dick - A Scanner Darkly

Almost exactly like the film, which is brilliant. A must read for everyone.
