A better novel than a film, imo; less stylized and campy.

Was really good.

Good taste, Indifferent43!! You're reading stuff up my alley. Have you tried Naked Lunch?!?

Try some Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac!!
I have read Naked Lunch, and what a crazy beautiful piece of work it is. I've also read The Road and The Dharma Bumsby Kerouac. Still have Ginserberg on my list.

Most recently:
Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, a nice short read that was rather heart wrenching.
Mortality by Christopher Hitchens, it was so enticing that I read it in one sitting.

I'm two thirds through the book now and think I see what you mean. Very satisfying thus far.

I tried to read "The Casual Vacancy," the adult book by JK Rowlings. I think she wrote it just so she could include as many 4-letter words as possible. I had got it from the library and had to return it. I don't think I'll try to get it back.

^ I was curious about that book, though I have no desire to get hold of it anytime soon.

Life of Pi by Yann Martel

I thought the beginning was drawn out and uninteresting, the actual sea journey followed the same suit. However, the last part of the story from where he found out about the truth of the island was exhilarating. So it's worth reading this book just to get to the end.

Seriously...I'm Kidding , by Ellen DeGeneres
A funny book by a funny lady, also read this one in one sitting.

Wolves of the Calla (The Dark Tower, #5) by Stephen King
Was awesome how at the end of the book the characters got hold of Salem's Lot and were wondering who Stephen King is lol. Can't wait to start the 6th one!

Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay
Very similar to the first season, so was rather boring.

Dearly Devoted Dexter , by Jeff Lindsay
The story was better than the first book, but I don't like Linday's writing style; he lacks detail and substance.

Then I guess I won't bother with the novels. I feared as much reading the previews on amazon.

Song of Susannah (The Dark Tower, #6) by Stephen King

I've never had more urgency to read the next book in a series, The Dark Tower, then after finishing Song of Susannah! All hail Sai King!

Dexter in the Dark (Dexter, #3) by Jeff Lindsay

Despite the side mentions of "IT", the writing in this third installment is better then the previous two Dexter novels. However, my biggest complaint is still the lack of substance and detail; the story jumps too much to become interesting or enticing.

I'm about halfway through this at the moment - so far it feels like every time it's about to really get going, it goes off into a slightly dull tangent. It's had a lot of good reports from friends whose tastes I trust, so I'm sticking with it.

btw - I've now got a new paperback out - a novella called The Storm Plain. There are free copies available from www.halfcutpublications.com (unfortunately I think they're only free within the UK)

^ Yeah, I felt the same way.

Dexter By Design (Dexter #4) by Jeff Lindsay
This fourth Dexter installment is the best in the series yet.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson
Brilliantly written, the movie did justice.

I was reading David McCullough John Adams( really poorly written, though well researched, I guess) when I noticed that this bio mainly consisted of long quotations from The Diary and Autobiography of John Adams, so I switched over to that and am enjoying the hell out of it.
