What are some good TV shows to watch?
Twin Peaks (of course) was brilliantly done.
American Gothic was also some mighty fine television for its one season.
LOST had some slack moments, but it did an excellent job of keeping an enormous cast and a complicated plot fresh and interesting for six seasons, and (oh happy day!) unlike my other two favorite shows IT HAD AN ENDING! (PS Seriesly, I didn't even start watching it until the end of season 4 because I was scared it would be cancelled without a real ending, or die a slow protracted death like a certain series about 2 FBI agents investigating paranormal mysteries. ) (PPS I feel guilty about my love for LOST, like I'm cheating on TP. Isn't that silly?) (PPPS Jack + Kate = James + Donna.)
I have seen TP, AG, and LOST several times, and I am looking for something new. (Well, new for me.)
Ideally, I want something scary and pretty and violent and funny and romantic. With a lot of scenes in the forest. And ghosts or spirits with speaking roles, who ideally reside in said forest. And a large cast of good looking people. And a mountain of corpses. (Or a pit of corpses; I'm not picky.) But anything with an intelligent plot and interesting characters will do quite nicely.
What else do y'all like? Any suggestions in keeping with my above favorites?
Thanks!

The Prisoner (the original not the new AMC version!)
Damages (series 1 to 3)
The West Wing (notably series 1 to 5)
Prison Break (1st series was best)
The Avengers (both B/W and colour Emma Peel series)
Gossip Girl (often reminds me of the soapier adolescent elements of Peaks)

Wonder Showzen. Funniest programme of the last 10 years.

Good luck finding episodes of "Not Only...But Also" to watch! There but for the grace of God could have gone Python and The Goodies!SMILLSOID wrote:Quatermass, Monty Python's Flying Circus, Not Only...But Also, Ripping Yarns, The Goodies, One Foot in the Grave, The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Postman Pat...

What a terrifying thought, eh Exy! I've got the 'best of' DVD - and its actually 'all that's left of' - very sad.Exy wrote:Good luck finding episodes of "Not Only...But Also" to watch! If you're just looking for general recommendations from others who like TP, my other favorites are Firefly, Wonderfalls, Due South, Farscape, Strange Luck, and Babylon 5.
Strange Luck, as far as I know, can only be found via torrents; the rest are out on DVD.

I'm shocked and stunned that nobody's mentioned "FRINGE" here - perhaps like me you were unaware of it, despite it now being in it's third series. But I recently discovered it and I would have though, like Carnivale, that this show is right up TWIN PEAKS and general Lynch fans street!

Got to say, I've somewhat fallen in love with Dexter. But I still have some catching up to do, being on Season 2. It's unconventional, dark, funny and has a decent soundtrack. Also, Michael C Hall is a fantastic actor. Who knew you could make a sociopath so likeable?

I've just completed the HBO show 'OZ'. I'd highly recommend it.
And of course 'Six Feet Under' can't be beat.

Lilyhammer
Basically, they've taken Steve Van Zandt from Sopranos and had him go into 'witless protection' in Norway. Now Norway is full of immigrants from various Third World pissoirs and, in that weird socialist state there, a welfare system has been set up to acculturate them. As in the USA, they are not welcomed by large segments of the native population, save those who profit from them. (Remember the idiot who killed all those kids on that island?)
Sounds trite, but the culture clash comedy is extremely pointed and funny as hell.
The first 8 episodes are on Netflix and the 2nd season is filming.
Unlike TP (or Sopranos for that matter) there are no 'magic moments'; all is on the surface and all is well-acted, directed and written. Norway has a population of about 5 million and an average of 1 million tuned in there for each episode.
Highly recommended.
