Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)
Maybe there haven't been that many Angelo tracks in TR, but there's been several at least. You can find them on the soundtrack here. I think "Accident / Farewell Theme" (which, IIRC, we heard after the hit and run, after the Log Lady died, and in 16 when Coop says goodbye to his "family") is tremendously beautiful, in the vintage TP/Angelo way. "The Chair" was similarly memorable, and of course "Heartbreaking" too. It's a shame the soundtrack for TR isn't nearly as brilliant as the original, but there's been brilliance in it, at the least.
I'm just confused, though, because the whole "TP music increasing with each ep as Coop returns" thing has not happened very consistently at all. Episodes are still often very light on the music, certainly the Angelo pieces, and especially any vintage Angelo tunes. Yes, Part 16 was an exception as the TP Theme, Audrey's Dance and others were rather prevalent (tho' still nothing like the original series), but if you look at Parts 1 to 15 I don't think there's a very consistent increase in Peaks-y music. It kind of was like that up til Part 7 or 9 maybe, but then... nope. And it's too bad because 9 (I think) made great use of old, somewhat obscure Peaks music, like "Night Bells" and "Deer Meadow Shuffle."
I very much admire the more drone-y, subtle kind of sound work Lynch and co. are doing in TR, but it's just not at all a replacement for the music of the original.
I suspect we probably will be hearing more in the last two hours though if 16 is anything to go by, and now that Coop really is back. I thought it was as good as any Part thus far. Perfect, of course not, but KM was fantastic, Audrey's scene was eerie as hell and just perfect, with that music again... and even the smaller sillier stuff like the Polish Accountant, I loved it.
BUT, there's really no reason why this had to take 15 hours to happen, BESIDES just making Coop waking up more satisfying. I mean, of course it's going to be satisfying when you're made to wait that long, but does what happen in between warrant such a gambit? I don't think so. The Dougie story had its good/great parts, but it did not need to be 13 hours long. It was incredibly simple and just kind of treading water, a sure sign of padding out things from 9 to 18 hours. AND, most of all, the thing that catalyzed the "return" was arbitrary in the extreme. He put a fork in the socket. OK. That coulda happened back in Part 9 when he also eyed an electrical outlet. Or Part 11 or 12. Or Part 5 or 6 or 7. It's just so much dead air and wasted time, and the only way this is going to finish satisfactorily is if it really is kind of saving the biggest and best material for the last 2 hours, going out with a bang and a kind of 2-hour Lynch film inside a giant Lynch film. Let's hope.

Curious to hear if this group would be in favour of S4 ? I'm personally torn.

I think the concern would be that they'd do something ridiculous - like put the lead character in a waking coma.

I was hoping to find the one from the night driving scene of episode 8, and the one with Coop and family at the casino from episode 16. But so far no luck.sylvia_north wrote:I noticed one song when Mr C kills Ray and in the part 16 driving scene right away.
Nope, never again for me. It's too fucked up to wait every week for a show you know is bad since the first episode. A few good scenes and music can't redeem the whole season. Here Comes That Bob wrote:Curious to hear if this group would be in favour of S4 ? I'm personally torn.
Some of my compatriots really scare the shit out of me...
Something about bowing down at Lynch's feet and the fear of not surviving the intensity of the finale.
The world of fandom is scary...

That's apparently song #4 from the soundtrack: "Accident / Farewell Theme by Angelo Badalamenti"Aqwell wrote:I noticed one song when Mr C kills Ray and in the part 16 driving scene right away. I couldn't help but watch a S4 but I don't want it.
The musical contributions, whether by Dean Hurley or Badalamenti have just made no impact on me.
There are very few professions where people are better in their 70s than in their 20s to 50s.

Same with me. Morbid curiosity would get the best of me.mlsstwrt wrote:I couldn't help but watch a S4 but I don't want it.

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)
I'm off the S4 wagon completely. While I'd be happy for it to be there for the fans who have enjoyed TR thus far, I am not going to be watching it. Maybe once it is all done and out on DVD, maybe only then would I watch it, and not right away. I will welcome any new Angelo music for sure even if I do not watch it, so I could definitely go for the soundtracks. Here Comes That Bob wrote:Curious to hear if this group would be in favour of S4 ? About the music, if you look at the track listings for those two CDs, there are now slots available for just a Julee Cruise song and at most two more pieces from Angelo. That's ok, it should be enough, but that's about it. It is not like we need exclusively new songs for the finale.
Finally, regarding DougieCoop: we have waited for 26 years for this story to be told. And out of 18 hours they get to spend on it, they spend 14 hours teasing us how Dougie is about to wake up. That to me is excessive and a waste of my time that I'd rather have not been exposed to. I have also been very refrained and reserved in not really speaking my mind of what I honestly think of that attitude. I was expecting a serious and a compelling story, not a mockery of its lead character and its audience. Yes, he/they can do it because they can. It does not mean it is a good or a bright idea, and that I'll go completely quiet about it.

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)
As one of the disappointed, I have to say that, for me, ep 16 was, hands down, the best episode of TR so far. Looking at the Dougie saga as a way for Cooper to vicariously make up for the life he missed inside the lodge, makes it somewhat tolerable and even touching in this episode. It doesn't justify most of what took place with Dougie, but the payoff is not as horrible as I expected. Coop's return is moving and thrilling, but it's also strangely abrupt and not as powerful as it should have been. And Diane's and Audrey's scenes are surprisingly ineffective and hokey. THE MC announcing "Audrey's Dance" is way too meta and jarring for me. Why would it be called that in Audrey's reality, whatever that is. That was the title of the piece on the official soundtrack! Very strange choices being made here. And why does the dialogue continue to be so unrealistic and lifeless?
"That's what I need, a clean place, reasonably priced."

Well, that explains how Andy found the money to pay for the Rolex and the chair: 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42!IcedOver wrote:Yes, and before he decides to shove off back to the real world, he'll leave Andy in charge by drinking water with him out of the same cup and saying "Now you are like me."yaxomoxay wrote:We'll find out that Cooper and Audrey are stranded on an island, which is also a sort of purgatory.

I really like that post ABR. I do feel like sincerity has been missing from TPTR. The original had its fair share of 'campness' as you call it but it was balanced out. FWWM was almost entirely sincere and I loved it.
It sounds paradoxical but TPTR has had a surfeit of nastiness and banal violence but at the same time is missing a darkness that the original had, or a type of darkness at least. The original had Bob and TPTR has Mr C, a kind of supernatural gangster.
