Just curious, in what sense do you think Engels would have helped? In terms of dialogue or overall story? Wasn't one of the chief complaints of FWWM that Frost was not more involved and had no input on the script?

In my opinion, Lynch is probably the chief driver of the parts of TPTR that most of the folks on this thread did not like or have not yet warmed up to, and putting in another writer would not have made much difference IMHO.

Good, I liked her performance and the movie. Honestly, without silly jokes and names, it's just Inland Empire and The Return (and the characters she played in it) that I don't like. And she tends to wince from time to time...

MT, re Engels I was talking dialogue. I know there was no way anyone else but Lynch and Frost would have story say..

And whoops, I actually meant Harley Peyton! I just feel he writes effortless dialogue for some of these characters. There's a musicality and a rhythm that I feel Lynch and Frost don't have.
God, I love this music. Isn't it too dreamy?

Yes, as much as I loved the new season in so many ways, I miss some of the snappy dialogue from the original series. There weren't as many great one-liners that stand out in my mind.

Not at all. It's just that when someone continuously expresses such dislike-bordering-on-disgust with the thread in question (you've labelled it a "haven for misogynistic nastiness" just recently) and some of its frequent posters as you have, I have to wonder why he's drawn again and again to such vile, unholy place. I mean, wouldn't he be more happy among his fellow third season appreciators?
As a woman visiting this forum it does feel misogynistic when people are calling Laura Dern a hag. I can come back here out of curiosity can I not?

If there was an active forum for fans of season 3 here I'd be there, but there isn't one.
Teetotaling and prayer. Their hands touch yours and mine.

Most of the 'Profoundly Disappointed' have long since left this thread. I consider this now a thread for fruitful discussion of what worked and what didn't work for them in the new season.

Are there even any moderators left on dugpa.com anymore :-)?

Sorry, I don't get this - have you checked the other 345 threads on the Dugpa forum? They're all populated by gushing fans with nothing but praise for the new season and its creators.

Although I found Dern’s performances in IE and TP:TR (particularly the scene where she describes the rape) enormously powerful, I can certainly understand why her facial contortions might put someone off and even ruin a film for you where she has a prominent role. That’s a legitimate criticism of her acting abilities and choices, and I respect it. There has, however, been, separate and apart from that, a disturbing slant toward misogyny in A FEW users’ posts — certainly an extreme minority in the population of the Disappointed, but a vocal minority pretty much since the first night the show aired. For instance, opining that Bell is a lousy actress is a legitimate artistic criticism; comparing Bell to a porn star (as at least one user did) is at best trollish and at worst hateful. The difference seems fairly self-evident to me. No one is calling Harry Dean or Don Murray a fossil or a geezer (thankfully), so why is it necessary to call Fenn a hag? Can you see the double standard there? What possible value does that kind of discourse contribute? Such cheap barbs, far from acting as true criticism, merely discredit anything of value that author might say elsewhere.

You're according too much value (and attention) to my ramblings I'm affraid. I wasn't aware 'hag' was such an insult (I learned that word in a TV show too, Salem to be precise). But I must confess, I would definitely watch a porn with Chrysta Belle. She's pretty hot.

"Hag" is a derogatory term for an older woman and harkens back to tales of witches. There is no equivalent term for a man, though 'old geezer' might come the closest.

In my personal opinion, these actors and actresses are giving their maximum efforts to entertain us the viewers (especially on a show like TP:TR, where they weren't paid very well) and we would be best served to show them as much respect as we can muster, even if their performances didn't always work for us.

The conversation has been badly derailed by a single person going on a sexist rant, followed by by TP:TR defenders saying that's what all the criticism is. We're way too far from the lack of plot, paper thin characters, hours of wasted scenes, plot inconsistencies, lack of atmosphere, lack of resolution and general pointlessness of the series. I'm now profoundly disappointed in this thread, as well.

Two people.

Only one person said that. I said the exact opposite.

All right dear friends, it's been fun for a little while to argue about peaks, turds and hags, but maybe it's time to let Twin Peaks rest in peace and leave the lodge forever. Good day, or good night and farewell.

If the thread has been derailed, it was by people who for some reason can't handle or process a critical or even a praising comment about a woman's looks, and who get a thrill out of overusing words like "misogynist" and "sexist".

Anyway, yes, back to bitching about the show.

Back on topic:

I refuse to believe that anyone who is a fan of original Twin Peaks wasn't disappointed that out of 18 hours we got 15 minutes of Cooper being Cooper. There is no way that didn't let you down.
