Fans said the same about Sherilyn Fenn when she voiced her disappointment with how she was treated. From interviews I've seen Sherilyn and Julee seem like loving sweet persons. Incidentally (?) Julee used the exact same phrase as Sherilyn did at the time: "if you only knew..". Maybe the real mystery behind TPL:TR isn't so wonderful after all!
She is a single mother trying to raise children, where one child has, from what I have read, a certain disability. She has all the respect from me that she can get in the world. This comes from me speaking as a married father of two young children.

For most of us inhabiting spirits I don't think episode 18 really mattered that much. I enjoyed a fair bit of it (a lot easier when expectations* are low, and you're not invested in any potential plot). However, there might be the odd addition to the group in the next day or so.

* The one disappointing thing about tonight's episodes, is that they didn't really add much to the previous 16. I had some hope that my earlier issues with the show could be somewhat redeemed, but that ship has now sailed, I'm afraid. In fact, I almost view both of tonights episodes as standalones in the grand scheme of things. Add to that the ever increasing logistical nightmare (from ep 18) of working out multiple personalities, realities, timelines, etc, and a continuation of this in a hypothetical season 4 has pretty much lost all its appeal, for me. Oh well, it's just a tv show :)
I'm glad you enjoyed a fair bit of it The Gazebo. I did too, but am still trying to wrap my head around it.

There is a part of me that just loves it in its own right. If I have to be honest, there is that part of me that wanted some resolution to certain storylines-Audrey, Red, Ben/Beverly, etc. And we got none of that.

Not to mention we got doodly-squat about Annie and it now seems MacLachlan himself was bullshitting us when his response to someone on social media who was inquiring if the question that closed S 2 will get properly addressed in the new series was something along the lines of "Count on it". I mean what the holy F*** was that ever about?!?!?!

The played ZZ Top (which I do like) without them even being there, they played Lissie (sp?), and that freakin' Simone band twice, and all of a sudden they do not have a few minutes for Julee, that's a shame. And a certain moron left a comment at that link you posted, that nobody wants to see her lip-sync (like the other bands were playing live?!), and that she (Julee) has mental issues?! Shame on them!
But isn't it more about finding the proper placement for Julee's songs in the show? It just wouldn't have been right for her music to have returned before the very end, and the finale has the pressure of time. I thought it was done very beautifully and tastefully myself. I'm sorry to read Julee's upset.

Look, I'm not an idiot. I realize it's all subjective. It's just that I have a tough time understanding all the love. Lynch could pretty much show A cow being milked in slow motion for 5 minutes, then a brief Aerosmith performance with a hard cut to a girl holding an ice cream cone. The ice cream melts slowly down the cone, then we follow the drop to the ground in excruciating slow-mo for 4 minutes while Moonlight Sonata plays (in slow motion of course). People would talk about how it made them cry and never before have they witnessed such brilliance.

Take Lynch's name off the credits, and this shit woulda been panned to no end.
Hi, my first post on this thread (where I should have been all along?) after a couple of hundred posts on the episode threads. I'm cool with people having a visceral but positive reaction to what they saw, but yeah, the praising to the heavens of something so baffling and so dismissive of what has gone before is confusing to me. Interestingly, I see lots of posts proclaiming unprecedented greatness, but almost none of them contain any elaboration as to why said poster thinks it's so great. It just is.

We don't know what Kyle knew at that point, whether there have been script changes, deleted scenes, etc.

Did anybody else think for a second that the waitress serving at Judy's was going to be Annie?

I think the people who love episode 18, love it on a visceral level. Look at Trudy Chelgren's post- she makes a great case that parts 17 and 18 may be the best of all.

At this point though, I don't think anyone should be arguing anymore. Anyone of us should see that these final two episodes are either the greatest or worst thing ever put on T.V. Coherent cases can be made for both propositions.

I don't think a good case can be made that it was 'mediocre' or 'so so'. You either loved it, hated or, or feel completely disoriented by it (a mixture of both). I am right now in the disoriented camp.

Fair enough, but given how careful and frustratingly obtuse the actor was when wording anything in regards to the new show (the same goes for everybody else on the production side), it just seems EXTREMELY odd he'd be so bold to make such a public claim about such massively important plot point without having any hard knowledge of the matter. Ah well, who the hell knows.

Yes, and then I thought for a moment the address she gave was going to lead to Annie. Then I realized before he got to the door it was going to be 'Carrie/Laura'.

Yeah, I wish I could say for sure what Kyle knew or didn't know. And for the record, I am also disappointed Annie wasn't really addressed in the show. I have very mixed feelings at this point. I think the last two hours were brilliant, but they did not give me the emotional homecoming and closure a big part of me was hoping for.

I don't know why it would be so surprising that some people would have deeply intimate reactions to it and proclaim it that way, though? Reaction seems pretty evenly split right now between love and hate. I just know it hit me in a place that was very personal and its embellishment of the relationship between Laura and Coop (which you could argue is the transcendental crux of the show) was profoundly beautiful - and deeply sad.

I think I need a rewatch, but upon reflection, this is just Lost Highway territory isn't it? I'm having a hard time reconciling it, deciding whether in my opinion that it's clever or just plain lazy. After everything, the old fugue state bollocks again. He's basically welcoming people to call him a one trick pony now, either way.

This absolutely sucks. They had 25+ years to bring closure to it and chose to ignore it instead. Regarding Kyle, we need to see the original script, honestly. Who knows what it had.

Might I also remind you (and anyone else caring enough as to be reading this forum) that the Annie thing was thoroughly - what retrospectively definitely looks like - BOTCHED by Frost's Secret History book as well. I guess now's finally a safe time to say those altered facts in regards to the character's background that called into question her very existence (and so much more of what was established as pre-S 3 canon) and many of us were hoping (against hope?) would get some kind of meaningful payoff in the new series were, in the cold light of day, nothing more than big fat RETCONS, born out of disinterest, irresponsibility, carelessness, laziness, sloppiness or God only knows what else.
For the record, I'm not trying to pick a fight with anyone who loved the book and/or The Return (I agree with mtwentz there truly would be no point in bickering over it now, if there ever was), I'm just expressing my own monumental disappointment things have turned out the way that they did.
