Yes. I think that is where we are headed.

My first thought of the shovels was the saying 'Golddigger' but that doesn't make anymore sense than painting the shovels does.

Possibly some interesting stuff here. Especially in light of certain piece of paper that was discovered by a few recently:

Proceed with caution?

Spoiler:
If we go with the 'It was all a dream' of Cooper theory, this ties in with the Wizard of Oz (Cooper hits his head like Dorothy) Has he been in a coma for 25 years?

My problem with this is that it is completely inconsistent with the original 2 seasons as well as the TSHOTP. I wouldn't be surprised if Lynch has co-opted the standard ways dreams are analyzed, but I also don't think this is the case.

Watts' character doesn't seem like someone who would be with Dougie, so that makes me agree with the folks who say that she's the person hired by the Casino manager. The thing is she was hired before Coop showed up and started winning all of the jackpots, aided by the lodge spirits(?). (Assuming we are being given these scenes in a chronological order, since at this point that may be asking too much ha ha). BUT since there were already forces out there trying to murder Dougie for whatever reason (gambling debt?) I'm not totally sure what her game is. It clearly was not to stop him from winning jackpots. Did Doppelcoop anticipate this stuff? Were the hitmen from Episode 3 credited with names?

That dream interpretation is interesting, but too reductive. It's too reductive because it presupposes that everything is just Cooper's dream.

We can reject such a reading because we know so much of Twin Peaks takes place independently of Cooper. For example, he was largely unnecessary for FWWM.

But also this kind of reading ignores that Lynch, and Frost too, see a true supernatural element to Twin Peaks, and so a purely psychological reading falls short of being able to account for this aspect.

I would argue that we need to think in terms of surrealism as a super-realism. It's not merely an expressionism where inner psychological workings are projected into the external world; in surrealism, these inner contents are always connected to a hidden supernatural aspect of everyday reality.

And that's exactly what Lynch and Frost created with Twin Peaks. Cooper's dreams reflect not only his own psychological workings, but also a real supernatural reality. The answer here is Both, or all of the above, not either/or or one of the above.

By the way, someone on Youtube mentioned that the substance the Coops are throwing up is Garmonbozia.

Pretty cool if true.

I don't go for the theory myself. But it's that piece of paper from documentary that nags at me now.

Of course I'm looking for patterns and clues everywhere.

We live inside a dream.

Spoiler:
During the new Lynch documentary, the camera briefly touches on a piece of paper that Lynch has out and it appears to be a scene he's working on that takes place in Paris. People are talking including Cole and Monica B. character. Someone else might chime in her but it says something like what is the dream and who is the dreamer? There was more but I forget. Hopefully someone will post the still.

Re: "the paper":
Spoiler:
DKL read that quote from the Upanishads before every screening of IE he attended. The Return won't be a literal dream any more than IE was. DKL frequently uses dream logic in a metaphorical way, and seems to view life as a sort of waking dream. I wouldn't take any of this too literally.

Btw I'm surprised no one has made note of the "Film France" logo at the end of every episode's end credits. Doesn't seem like DKL is particularly trying to keep that "secret" shoot too secret. Especially odd in light of Nevins saying the whole show is in the US. Also weird that Nevada doesn't receive a filming credit the way Ca., Wa., and France do. It's been in every episode!

one of the cop cars that shows up to Hastings house says 119 on it, maybe a connection to the druggie lady saying 119?

Well, we do have that line from FWWM: we live inside a dream.

I've always taken this a couple of ways. 1) It refers mainly to the lodge spirits, but 2) it could be a reference to the philosopher Berkeley's notion that we all live inside the mind of God, in which case, we are in a sense all part of God's great dream. This ideas fits rather nicely with the Surrealists' belief in a super-reality where dream, the unconscious, and ordinary reality make up a larger whole.

I don't personally believe that Lynch would choose Cooper as his dreamer. It might be the "mother" or some other character we haven't met yet.

Truly, the dreamer here is Lynch, and Frost too, I guess.

Twin Peaks lives inside their dream, and ours too.
