Totally agree with FlyingSquirrel. The Vegas stuff was exciting at first because there was this foreboding sense that it was leading to something. The 119 woman and her kid were wonderfully strange, Duncan Todd's initial scene where he insinuates that he's being controlled by someone more powerful (probably Mr C), Candy's eerie hand wave ... it all seemed to be leading to some dark, sinister conspiracy, or at the very least to be an interesting mirror image or metaphor for Cooper's inner world (à la Mulholland Drive). Instead it wraps up with Coop being best pals with the gangsters and everyone who was trying to kill him get shot or arrested somewhere else. The scene with Sonny Jim's gym set was fantastic, but part of what made it so good was that it seemed to be setting up some kind of tragedy or darkness ahead for the Joneses, which never materialized either. To clarify, I'm not a sadist who wanted to see Janey-E and Sonny Jim die or anything, but it would have been interesting if they were put in some kind of danger and Coop had to choose between saving them and going back to Twin Peaks. Something more dynamic would have helped. And with Diane mentioning Janey-E being her half-sister... what was the point of that if it was never followed up on? Just to create another unanswered question?

Lynch and Frost had some cool ideas and Lynch intermittently made those ideas look and sound fabulous, but it's hard not to feel let down... all those years of writing and that's the best they could do?
