Honourable mentions: Chet and Nadine
Nadine's storyline sours in the second season, but I can't help feel this weird peaksy tragic feeling during the first. She's done absolutely nothing wrong yet is just dealt the worst hand. Losing her eye, pretty much losing her husband, her will to live, not to mention sanity. I don't know, her character and storyline are both just so hauntingly sorrowful. It makes the second season stuff all the more goofy I think. So much potential.
