Wow your right.

I read that in an article in Entertainment Weekly Magazine and they specifically said the father was the killer in the Danish version. I have since looked it up and it is not. I apologize for this, as I have not seen the Danish version and was going only by that fact in the magazine.

The real killer is who I think it is right now. So since they say they are changing it I guess I can cross him off my list.

When the casino on the other side of the stretch of water was introduced into the plot I actually let out a laugh.

I haven't seen "The Killing" but the Huffington Post has an interview up with actress Michelle Forbes where she is asked about the Twin Peaks comparisons. Here's the excerpt:

A lot of people compare it to "Twin Peaks," with the murder mystery in the Northwest. What do you think of those?

You know, it's really interesting -- I mentioned earlier, I did have a show in Canada, "Durham County," which was also compared to "Twin Peaks" and it was also compared to "The Killing" in the NY Times because it was more of a character study than a police procedural and very beautiful to look at and very broody, and that was also compared to "Twin Peaks." And I never understood the comparison, and on this one, I tended to sort of pooh-pooh that initially, but I am understanding how deeply similar it was. In fact, somebody sent me a scene where Laura Palmer's parents discover their child's death and it's shockingly similar. so there are a few similarities, but I don't know how 'Twin Peaks' goes by way of Denmark 20 years later and comes back to AMC, I'm still trying to understand, but I think the similarities are fairly intense.

I was a massive fan of Twin Peaks. Massive. I dont know how any of us grew up in this age of television and weren't astounded, and saying that, I'm still shocked that that was on network television. I was just watching it 6 months ago and there's this little scene with Kyle MacLachlan is with somebody, in this little room having dialogue, and this marching band just goes walking past, and I just thought, "How did -- this is so David Lynch, it's so insane, and it's so insane that it was on network television 20 years ago." I can't imagine it getting through today, I don't know how it happened, but I'm so glad it did. And it changed television.

But two decades had passed and I didn't see it. I think it was when I saw the one sheet for the show and it was 'Who Killed Rosie Larsen?" and it was so similar to "Who Killed Laura Palmer?" And so yes, initially I missed it, but now I see the similarities are intense.

"Twin Peaks" fell off after they solved that mystery -- hopefully that doesn't happen here.

No, hopefully the show lives and the two detectives go off to solve other crimes.

my socks are on fire wrote:Well, if that's the guilty party in this incarnation, then it's even more TP-like. I noticed that the ma and pop Larsen were acting sorta 'Palmeresque' in the last episode.

I think it's someone related to the Richmond campaign - if not him - and Holder's on the take trying to pin it on somebody else (Bennet now).

I'm sure I'll revise that theory in a couple episodes though.
Hey, I might be half-right for once! Seems like Holder is firmly in the good guy camp now though, I must admit I liked his character better when he seemed suspicious. I enjoyed the Linden/Holder episode, but it for me it made the murder mystery seem more contrived in comparison.

Show really doesn't have much to do with TP, except for the narrative (above said episode is a good example). But soon as it goes somewhere different, we find out Rosie looks to have done some prostitution at a casino...

Well - at the risk of a spoiler - at least I was still half-right! Should've trusted my instincts, I feel like Ms. Sud is messing with me personally. It's gotta have something to do with the mayor now...

So, unless some red-headed vixen is behind it all, it officially has nothing to do with TP (which I'm thankful for). Think this thread could be closed.

Let's not forget that we also learned in the penultimate episode of the season that Rosie was leading a secret double life as a high-class call girl. And the police were led to this fact by the clue of suspiciously large deposits that Rosie made into a secret bank account (the safety deposit box, anyone?) before she was killed. And she was operating a lot of this secret life out of a nearby casino that was accessible via boat.

I meeeeean...come on, Veena Sud. You've *really* never seen Twin Peaks before...?

I was going to watch this anyway because it has beautiful Billy Campbell from the 4400 in it, but after reading what all of you have had to say about it, I am absolutely desperate to catch it! I'd quite like to see the Danish version aswell, since the reviews for the American remake seem to be either "I haven't seen the Danish version, this is awesome" or "This is okay, watch the Danish original because OH MY GOD IT ROCKS!"

I watched all AMC's The Killing, and I liked it very much. But now I almost finished Forbrydelsen (3 episodes left), and I must agree - OH MY GOD IT ROCKS!

I'm reading everywhere that the season 2 premiere last night had very low ratings.
Apparently, most viewers are upset that the murder wasn't solved at the end of season 1, and this is their revenge, to boycott the show
It's Twin Peaks all over again. The pressure to reveal the killer, and when they did, it will kill the show.

Too bad, I'm really enjoying The Killing. I wish some people could see that some shows have more to offer than just a killer's identity.

I saw the pilot and switched off during episode 2. I decided to watch the Danish series first. Later I watched Forbrydelsen season 1 and it is so very good! Season 2 was only half season 1's length (10 instead of 20 episodes) and the plot was a bit ridiculous in places (different mystery/ murder case), but still very good, just not as good.

I watched the BBC 4 broadcasts in 720p through downloads from Demonoid. Good quality and subtitles. They are still available as a single torrent per season and a blu ray with english subs hasn't been released yet, as far as I know. Highly recommended.

i was able to watch half the second season premiere last night (wanted to finish but needed sleep) - and i feel like that alot of people did want to seek revenge by purposefully not tuning in. lame, but whatever. unless the show just totally steps on a landmine i plan on finishing out the second season. I really enjoy the two detectives and am eager to see how their personal stories fold out.

there's definitely been a little too much red herring-but going by the book i am assuming the killer has got to be a character we already know-and i'm going with richmond's lady assistant! she framed him out of jealousy! between this and mad men on sunday nights, i'm a happy camper.

I agree with you Brad!
When season 1 ended, I was betting on Holder and Gwen, but now we saw that Holder isn't exactly dirty, so I'm still betting on Gwen :)
