Needleman do you have a link to any recent streaming numbers, I only remember seeing the ones following the premiere?N. Needleman wrote:I think the show is very divisive for audiences, period. There's non-fan forums I've gone where people either unreservedly love it or absolutely despise it, or there's a mix. I don't think Dugpa is necessarily that different. I also think the balance will depend on where the story goes and how long it takes. I don't think we can put a percentage on it. I am surprised by how much active buzz it has, on par with other big shows.
That being said: If its streaming numbers remain solid and the critical praise continues, and Showtime is still hooked on its critical cachet, I think there's a good shot at another season if Lynch and Frost want to do one. Which is fine by me. I don't really care whether it is servicing the fans so much as servicing itself, and as long as it's doing that well I think it should be allowed another series if it wants one. I don't think it should be chastened.

Re: NON SPOILERS: Twin Peaks: Season 3 on Showtime Thread
Firsthand info from the Tumblr side of things: Showtime is heavily advertising the show on that platform in the States and there is, of course, an uptick in the volume of discussion and giffing (fanart not so much, regrettably. Only two Diane pics so far? Inconceivable!). There's also a low but constant stream of people getting into the old show with the stated intent of catching up. Still, the show has failed to make it to the trending tags past the premiere.

I doubt anyone will find any- Showtime only released those numbers to counteract the bad publicity from the opening Nielsen ratings. They are under no obligation to release such numbers and I think media companies typically hold those numbers tight to the vest.

I am not worried about the negative reactions among some of the fans. It was even worse when Fire Walk With Me premiered. I think they'll come around, at least most of them. Fire Walk With Me stood the test of time, and I believe this will be seen as even better than FWWM (at least from what I have seen so far). Would like to hear more Badalament music though .mtsi wrote:Perhaps it's the 50% I'm reading. It's clear it's not seen as wonderful by all. Regardless, I still stand by the remainder of my post. I am a fan. I get fandom, but I cannot believe how precious some are of Twin Peaks. We've had 25+ years to percolate in our own memories and set our own narratives. That's doesn't make it 'so.' Perspective is just that.

I think they will come around too (myself included). But I still don't think they'll necessarily warm to all of it. It might end up that they (we) will love some parts, hate other parts. I think some of the TP-set stuff that has already been hinted at/spoiled in old threads will go over well with all fans.mtwentz wrote:I am not worried about the negative reactions among some of the fans. I have no idea where this will lead us, but I have a definite feeling it will be a place both wonderful and strange.

I'd agree with that sentiment.

I still want to know who the actor was that MTSI saw on location that's not on the cast list...mtsi wrote:I'd agree with that sentiment.

Re: NON SPOILERS: Twin Peaks: Season 3 on Showtime Thread
I am beginning to wonder: when Lynch stepped out, was it because he felt he should stretch the script into 18 hours of film and Showtime wanted him to cram it in to 9 hours? Or something likewise.

As far as I'm aware that was exactly what happened.Soolsma wrote:I am beginning to wonder: when Lynch stepped out, was it because he felt he should stretch the script into 18 hours of film and Showtime wanted him to cram it in to 9 hours? Or something likewise.
But there was no script to stretch, it was already written as 18 hours' worth. :p
