Ah, interesting - at some point I've really gotta sit down and read every script. I think I've only read the Lynch-directed ones in full (to see what he changed) and then stray parts of others. I also wonder which drafts made it online; at times these couldn't have been the ones they went into production with, right? (Thinking in particular of the ep. 27 one which is a total hodgepodge, repeats a scene twice and is completely missing all the opening stuff.)Audrey Horne wrote:This is so much fun! ...and you're dragging me back into this world in preparation.
Also, not sure if you want to add it... But Nancy is in the script for episode nine, possibly eight (my memory is foggy). It seems like the character is completely changed for her introduction in episode ten. Audrey buddies up to her while reading the morning newspaper. Audrey spies the mill fire and notes it, and casually asks about Ronnette. Nancy pals around with her, but as soon as Audrey leaves, Nancy Drops the act who... "Whatever you say, Miss Horne."
And I love Trudy. She had a last name... Wow, my Peaks knowledge is really slipping.

I recall the Episode 14-16 ones also being pretty nonsensical, with Ben and Ed (!) substituted for Leland to preserve the mystery, often in situations that made no sense with those characters' storylines/actions/location in other scenes.LostInTheMovies wrote:Ah, interesting - at some point I've really gotta sit down and read every script. I would love to read the fabled earlier draft of FWWM, as well as Episode 7, the only episode that does not seem to exist online (I believe Jerry has said he has a copy of Episode 7).

Re: Twin Peaks Character Series - 82 entries, runs thru 5/19
Weird sidebar: Martin Padley is spelled "Hadley" in the subtitles (at least on the Blu Ray). The announcer clearly says "Padley," and Davis (who apparently invented the name) seems to have always said "Padley" in interviews. It's never actually written out one way or the other in any script draft I've seen. If the "Hadley" spelling does indeed come from a script, Mr. Hadley would join Bob Booker (spelling per the script and end credits -- pronounced "Brooker" in the film) from MD as having a weird incongruity between the written and spoken versions of his name.
Weird sidebar 2: Am I the only one who can't help hearing the Star Trek theme melody when the ItL theme plays?
EDIT: I knew I was forgetting a much more prominent instance of the Lynch "spelling vs. pronunciation" character name phenomenon, but couldn't think of what it was -- I'm so embarrassed. Of course, it's Albert Rosenfield!

I look forward to these every day. It's the first thing I do when I hit downtime each day at work, and then I writhe all weekend waiting for the next entry! Thanks for these. When it's complete, it will be an indispensable resource.

yeah, these are really great. As well as the (essential) video series I'm reminded of the recap series Joel did on here where he watched the episodes in order of preference - there's a similar sense of a coherent story emerging despite approaching the series in a way that diverges from standard chronology. In both cases you feel like you're slowly zeroing in on the narrative centre, which gradually comes into view, little peeks here & there at first and eventually dominating. Funny to think of how early on in the series laura palmer would come without fwwm skewing things in her favour (would she even be included? there's the flashback, the jacoby tape and...?); as it is I have no idea where she'll appear.

Thanks. Really glad to hear people are savoring these each day (sorry for the recent delays - although at least they are still getting up within the scheduled day). And yes, I agree about the sense of a coherent whole emerging from the choas. It's funny how no matter what form I use to approach the show - chronological, ranking episodes, or exploring characters - that structure still appears. Says a lot about my way of viewing things I guess!
At this point, I'd probably take President Pinkle...
Here are this week's entries:
Sheriff Cable (#60)
Malcolm Sloan (#59)
FBI Agent Roger Hardy (#58)
Room Service Waiter (#57)
Deputy Cliff Howard (#56)

Your entry on Malcolm Sloan was really fascinating to me. I've always loved that character simply for his out-of-placeness in the show. Exposition Malcolm for sure. Unlike most fans, I actually don't mind this section of the show at all. In fact, I look forward to it. I revel in its ridiculousness and soak up its camp. Evelyn and James forever.

Re: Twin Peaks Character Series - 82 entries, runs thru 5/19
A few minor thoughts, having just rewatched the Pilot on Blu Ray:
Fun with nametags: Some close freeze-framing reveals Dr. Shelvy's first name to be Louise, and Julie (the Great Northern concierge)'s full name as Julie Duvic (evidently named after the location manager for the Pilot, who fulfilled the same function on LH and MD). The state trooper in the Pilot also has a nametag (I think it might say "G. McMickle," named for Pilot property master Greg McMickle, but it's impossible to read the full tag over the film grain/noise on my copy).
How do we know Johnny's nurse is named "Greta"? I know, it's on IMDB and the Twin Peaks wiki -- but I don't see any support in the script, the episode itself or the credits. Is there some reliable source?
Something I've never seen referenced and I never noticed before: I'm 99.9% sure the news report Shelly watches in the Pilot (talking about law enforcement converging on the train car) features Mark Frost's voice. First appearance of Cyril Pons? (For that matter, Joel, did I miss it, or is Cyril not in your character roster?)

I love these entries very much, every few days I am reminded of this project and have a few character entries to catch up on, very entertaining way to kill ~20 mins. When I've got some downtime at work and find a strong enough wifi signal, these things are an absolute joy for me! Glad that these are going to keep on comin' until Season 3

Re: Twin Peaks Character Series - 82 entries, runs thru 5/19
Thanks for these pieces of information. So the Pilot still has things to be discovered about even after over 25 years.Mr. Reindeer wrote:Julie (the Great Northern concierge)'s full name as Julie Delvic (evidently named after the location manager for the Pilot, who fulfilled the same function on LH and MD).
According to imdb, the location manager is Julie "Duvic", not "Delvic". Are you sure of the tag and/or manager name's spellings?
I asked before on the thread and some mentionned a deleted scene with the character but I found nothing of the sort among the deleted scenes of the boxsets. Maybe it is one of those too poorly conserved for an official release but I am unfamilliar with these? Maybe she has a nametag in Episode 1 where this "Greta" allegedly also appears. I doubt it to be from an interview since as far as I know the actress never did any.Mr. Reindeer wrote:How do we know Johnny's nurse is named "Greta"? Something strange that I have seen only on IMDb: there is a performer named David Chadwick who allegedly appeared in the Pilot and Episode 29 as two different characters, but I have never heard about him or his characters. I suspect it to be a hoax but can anyone confirm it?
