twin peaks at the Salish Lodge

Post by guildnavigator »

They held an event here at the Salish lodge (great northern exterior filming location) and had the second floor set up with a few screens, sanctioned by showtime, a bunch of merch, cherry pie, ghostwood beer, and a dale cooper cocktail, coffee etc.

We got our seats as soon as doors opened, and waited about an hour and a half for the show to start. People drove and flew in from all over the world, and a lot of them dressed up in costume for the event at the second floor ballroom in the Salish lodge.

The sad thing is that they didn't do a proper line check on the audio before the show aired, and the first fifteen minutes were plagued by a terribly harsh digital aliasing and distortion that left the audio actually painful to listen to. It sounded to me like they set it up and had it working, but at some point someone must have closed the laptop they were using to stream the show and caused the audio interface to lose sync before the show started. If any of you know what that sounds like, you know how harsh it is to listen to. A few people left after it became obvious that the sound wasn't right (the AV people scrambled for a minute but then just stood there witching the screen after trying for a while and not figuring out how to fix it)

Next the picture froze and we missed entire scenes, coming in halfway to important moments. Suddenly the screen over near us went off and came back on with a blue tint. People asked if they would rewind it, no answer. A few more people started leaving.

The third and fourth time that the screens cut out, larger and larger groups of people started taking off. Eventually we had had enough ourselves and went back to our room and watched the show on a F-ING CELLPHONE in our room.

We drove all the way from Santa Cruz, CA to Snoqualmie, WA with two small Mexican chihuahuas to see the premiere at the great northern and ended up watching it on a cell phone.

It was still awesome.

That's why you should always book GOOD (and probably expensive, but that SHOULD matter for the sake of all the audience's ears!!!!) A/V people.
And yes, I'm in the broadcast business. ;)
