Sheryl Lee's performance in Twin Peaks FWWM......

Post by Hank_Jennings »

I know alot of people here appreciate the film & her performance, but I'm just wondering if anybody else has encountered alot of ignorant crap said about her. I also post on IMDB, so alot of morons post there, & I have seen alot of disrespectful rubbish said about her, but its been happening alot lately & I'm absolutely sick of it. With disgusting comments like this, I think you guys would probably see where I'm coming from
sheryl lee worst actress ever what went wrong

now i know why she was dead in twin peaks she is unphotogenic and probably graduated from soft porn cable. Yeah i know she is M..? in twin peaks but damn she is a pig who cant act. Damn it if agent cooper wasnt just stuck in for no good reason with a changed attitude. this film promised answers there were none. Waste of any twin peaks loving persons time.
Sorry, but seeing as how I think she truly is an underrated & amazing actress who has always impressed me, I'd probably get a bit more ticked off about crap like this than if it was said about someone like say, Russell Crowe. I'm certainly not surprised that all the "criticism" I have come across is just immature rubbish. I guess I'm probably overreacting, as David Lynch & John Carpenter have said highly positive things about her, so their opinions hold more weight than some fool on IMDB who only succeeds at looking like an idiot.

Sorry for just rambling on forever, but Sheryl Lee's performance isn't appreciated as much as it should be, so it just irritates me when an "expert" provides their "criticism".

I second that! Sheryl Lee's peformance in FWWM was top notch, I think no one could ever pull it the way Lee did.

Yeah, you're right. I tend to overreact obviously, as I did just then. I shouldn't be surprised anyway, considering IMDB is the worst place to have an intelligent discussion about David Lynch films, or anything that isn't mainstream popular stuff.

You get the worst kind of flamers and negatively-inclined posters who pass themselves off as "movie buffs" over at IMDB. Pay absoloutly no heed. Sheryl Lee is amazing in both the series and film, full stop. :)

IMDB posters are second only to Farkers for sheer idiocy. It's like where a troll goes to learn how to be a troll. Best thing to do with trolls is ignore them.

That IMDB quote proves that people who struggle to form intelligible sentences are equally incapable of forming knowledgeable opinions of film and actors. Sheryl Lee's performance in FWWM seems a little manic at times, but I'm sure that's exactly what Lynch intended. I've seen her in other films and she's always been first-rate.

I would say that while IMDB is pretty sloppy in terms of its message boards, it is possible to have an intelligent conversation, but its extremely rare. I remember having an enjoyable discussion with someone who didn't like FWWM, but wanting to know why fans liked it.

I hadn't used these sorts of private forums in ages, so when I joined Dugpa recently, it was definitely a fresh change & a way better place for an intelligent discussion. IMDB is only really good for the private messaging system, & the ability to put trolls on ignore.

Sheryl Lee stole my heart... but not as Laura. As Maddy. There's something so different about her... so innocent and refreshing. And her relationship with James and Donna was one of my favorite aspects of the show. Her murder broke my heart.

So, she is such a good actor, she put on TWO powerful performances in the same show! I find that impressive, personally...

I recently made a similar post on Sheryl Lees imdb forum. I finally took the time to watch Fire walk with me for the first time last weekend. I didn't expect a lot from the movie since I read many bad reviews on imdb and some other sites. But after watching this incredible movie I've to say that I instantly fell in love with it. For me it's one of my favorite Lynch movies and Sheryl Lees performance also impressed me.

Yes! Another convert. First thing you know, you'll be like me and watch FWWM five times a year or more. It's my favourite David Lynch film and Sheryl Lee's performance is flawless, in my opinion. Greil Marcus compared her acting style with silent movie acting (in the best way possible) in his book The Shape of Things to Come, and I think he's right. Her face when she says "get away from me!" to Leland is so intense it's definitely not of the modern school of acting. Also, the melodrama when she visits Harold ("The trees... [...] I don't know when I'll be back. Maybe never") might be what turns people off, but it's their loss. Open your heart and you will witness some of the greatest acting ever.

You're right about me being converted. As I said in my introduction post I have watched the whole Twin peaks edition the pilot, all the episodes plus the Fwwm movie during the last months for the first time. And now I'm somehow obsessed with the whole world of Twin peaks. But to get back to Fwwm I might be wrong with my assumption but for me this movie seems to be the most melodramatic piece out of all the movies Lynch has made so far. And yes I also think lots of it has to do with Sheryl Lee's amazing performance.

i remember that sheryl lee had a role on a hospital series a few years after TP; i forget its name.
i wonder what she'd done since? would anyone know?

anyway, i did think her acting on fwwm was pretty evocative; watching the movie always brings me to tears. a lousy actress couldn't do that.
done bun; can't be undone

What I loved about that scene was finally getting to see the torment in Laura. After all the talk about her during the series, the diary - finally seeing her emotional state at that point brought it all home for me.

I would have preferred a couple of her scenes toned down a bit (her last words to James come to mind), but Lynch was directing so I assume that's what he wanted.

The time from her relevation in bed with BOB to her ultimate end is so sad, yet so beautifully done. The scene with her in class brings me to tears everytime - and it was such a brilliant counterpoint (in reverse) to James and Donna's reaction to her empty class chair in the series.
