hmmmm

Wonder what we could get that hasn't already been done. Maybe just a standalone release incorporating the extras from the blu ray boxset?

And a newly assembled director's cut from Lynch :)

...or not.

If indeed it is happening, this pleases me greatly, as I never bought the complete mystery - already got the Gold Box.

Really hoping it comes with The Missing Pieces and a documentary or two.

The crazy thing is that I'll buy this despite owning The Entire Mystery and being very likely to purchase the upcoming Japanese Blu-Ray set.

This film deserves support for a Criterion release, and Criterion deserves all the money in the world for their Lynch releases so that they can get to Inland Empire.

As opposed to an "extended cut", I could better imagine an entire re-edit by Lynch, consisting of alternate takes/angles etc. in vain with the new series with more experimentation, atmospheric pauses and perhaps restoring the original structure of the script (Jeffries scene taking place after the one year jump/James meeting Laura later in the week, etc.) Making it more of a "new way" of seeing the events of FWWM instead of an extended cut that simply pastes the Missing Pieces in. The only thing similar to this idea that I can think of off hand is Kevin Smith's recut of Mallrats.

I guess we'll find out soon...

I'm going to cut against the grain here and say that I don't want a Missing Pieces recut; most were left out for good reason -- the film doesn't need or benefit from them, despite the interest they hold for Peaks geeks.

Keep them separate.

Hmm, interesting. I hope there's some good extra material in there.
This is - excuse me - a damn fine cup of coffee.

I would kill for a Sheryl Lee commentary.

Official details.
DIRECTOR-APPROVED SPECIAL EDITION:
• Restored 4K digital transfer, supervised by director David Lynch
• 7.1 surround DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack on the Blu-ray, supervised by Lynch
• Alternate original 2.0 surround soundtrack, presented in DTS-HD Master Audio on the Blu-ray
• The Missing Pieces, ninety minutes of deleted and alternate takes from the film, assembled by Lynch
• New interview with actor Sheryl Lee
• Interviews from 2014 by Lynch with actors Lee, Ray Wise, and Grace Zabriskie
• More!
• PLUS: An interview with Lynch from the 2005 edition of filmmaker and writer Chris Rodley’s book Lynch on Lynch
So basically all that's here right now beyond the new Sheryl interview is previous stuff, I think. The "more" new features have yet to be announced - I assume they will be at a later date. Hopefully something substantial.

That new interview with Sheryl is enough reason for me to pre-order.

Wonderful! I'd been keen for this to happen. Can't wait to have the Missing Pieces.
