Jean-Michael Renault? Is that supposed to be another brother?
Was that Philip Jeffries that that bad Coop was talking to?

Re: Parts 1 + 2 (Spoilers)
This was no nostalgia trip, this was breaking new ground.
I do understand how some might 'not get it'.
I got it and I feel blessed. The acting being bland, lifeless emotionless is part of the affect, the creation of the mood. In my opinion, it is not an accident, but by design. This was used to great effect by Kubrick in 2001 A Space Odyssey.
The only thing that I really missed was the soundtrack being at the forefront at the beginning. It was very understated. But again, I think it's related to this being a totally different feel.
One thing I'll disagree with the initial reviews though, if there was humor, I missed it. However, I was so drawn into the story, the mind blowing concepts presented, I completely forgot about the absence of humor.

the bartender behind the dude that did gun finger to shelly looked exactly like jacque renault but with a beard.Esselgee wrote:Jean-Michael Renault? Is that supposed to be another brother?

I disagree. I thought most of the acting was strong except perhaps the guy in the weird portal warehouse in NYC.Chester Desmond wrote:Guys some of this acting, most of it, is so bad. Like really bad. The plot is great, the cinematography amazing, the acting: not good.
Re: Parts 1 + 2 (Spoilers)
But I'm not sure that will turn out to be true. I thought the hint towards the end is there may be a way for there to be two Coops in the world at the same time.djsunyc wrote:wow - this is the weirdest thing that's been on tv in...25 years? lol.

Yeah, I think his name in the credits was Jean-Michael Renault. They went by fast, so I'd have to check them again to be positive.djsunyc wrote:the bartender behind the dude that did gun finger to shelly looked exactly like jacque renault but with a beard.Esselgee wrote:Jean-Michael Renault? Re: Parts 1 + 2 (Spoilers)
The scenes with Catherine Coulson were so heartbreaking
But as for the show itself, I got more of a full-blown David Lynch vibe, than a "Twin Peaks" vibe if that makes sense. Definitely saw a lot of Eraserhead-esque imagery, especially with the scene between The Giant and Cooper at the beginning. Really enjoyed it.

Re: Parts 1 + 2 (Spoilers)
Twin Peaks is still way ahead of everything else on TV.
Oh my fucking God.
I am going to take a bit of a break for an hour or two between 3/4 to catch my breath.

Walter Olkewicz is credited as Jean-Michel Renault.
I loved every second of it and am gutted I'll have to wait a week for parts 3 and 4... Not available here...
Great song by The Chromatics.

Dude, I get it, it is shit.mtwentz wrote:Dude, you didn't get it, did you?Chester Desmond wrote:The visual effects are so bad too... the light face on Laura? The arm being replaced by a talking tree with thing on top...
God this is a travesty.
The CGI is so bad in the red room.
This so predicable and uninspired.
I am crying this is so bad, it's like a part of me has been murdered.
It was like 2001 A Space Odyssey, the humans without emotion.
That was EXACTLY THE feeliings LYNCH WANTED YOU TO HAVE.
Hang loose, Houlies

Re: Parts 1 + 2 (Spoilers)
They had to deal with the cliffhanger and getting Coop out of the lodge. After almost three decades it's happening. How surreal! I'm dazed in a pile of donuts.

Re: Parts 1 + 2 (Spoilers)
Gonna be honest here: I'm pretty disappointed.
What I will say though is that it's clearly setting up a huge, 18 hour mystery and therefore I may judge it better as the series progresses.
