Good call. I suppose one could argue all three colours could be associated with money, especially green in America, where Dale "Mr. Jackpots" Cooper won a crap ton in Vegas.Jerry Horne wrote:It's hard keeping up with these core colors. So, Gold, Silver and Green.ThumbsUp wrote:Following up on the green thing... in the conference room scene, Frank is initially pissed Coop is drinking his coffee but then starts drinking the green tea latte. Despite initial trepidation, he loves it. The escort's name is Jade. The Owl Cave ring Dougie once wore is green. Remind me, what's the significance of the colour green in Twin Peaks?
Edit: The flash across Tony's face also looks green.
Oddly enough, the first thing I thought of was Electrum.

Loving the classic cars.
This probably has little to do with the story, but I'm loving the use of the classic cars. Nice! I read a DKL quote that one of his favorite TV channels is "Velocity," because they create art with the cars. This is quite evident with the car thief bad guy's tricked out Charger.
This time we're keeping it mostly post 1968 or so. I never bought the idea that Laura Palmer drove a 56 Roadmaster, although for some reason Mike and Bobby's 60's era cars made sense.
The choice of the 1980 Firebird/Trans Am for Steven is Just Freakin' Perfect. Aside from the fact that the Firebird had T-tops for that incredible sequence of a satisfied Becky soaking up the view, the car just oozes the right amount of sleeze, without going into Leo territory (his drug money modern Corvette).
Wait a minute... Just remembered that Bobby changed out from a 60's Cuda (in the pilot) to -- a 1979 Firebird! Nearly the same as Steven, just a different color.
One more thing: also nice to see the cars actually driving, with rubber on the road, instead of being dollyed around.

I completely agree with this.Jonah wrote:Just finished watching Episode 5.
I reiterate that I think it's a mistake to be airing this as a weekly TV series. It should have all been uploaded at once - or at the very least they should air 2 episodes a week. The pace continues to be glacial - but that's not the only problem. The whole narrative structure just doesn't work as a weekly TV series, imo.
Lynch is in troll mode for this season. I think we could very well be stuck with Drool Coop for much longer than 99 % of viewers would prefer....Jonah wrote: The Dougie stuff has become tiresome. Kyle is still good - and I want to like these scenes - but enough already.
It's not unlikely that the real Cooper will return only for the final two episodes. I really hope that wont be the case.
Well, that is the challenge at the moment. If the show doesn't start improving really soon in terms of emphasis on character, characters you care about, allowing the viewer to build 'relationships' with the characters, this season will have almost no replay value whatsoever once all 18 episodes have aired. The first series did that right from the start, very successfully. But If all people are doing is trying to connect dots, once enough dots have been connected at the end of the run, not to mention that people are over the novelty of finally having new TP to watch, what is then the motivating factor driving people to return the world again and again? Slow pacing, flat digital aesthetic and deliberate contrarianism wont do that.Jonah wrote: A lot of the scenes and new characters are boring and tiresome. I kept thinking, who are all these people? Why am I watching this? I don't care about them.
True, but they don't drag them into long story arcs, like they did in season 2.Jonah wrote: And some of them are as bad as - or worse than - the weakest elements of Season 2, such as the new Sheriff Truman's wife and that scene about pipes. It was very poor.
That scene you mention though, with Truman's wife was incredibly bad, and shows worryingly questionable judgement from Lynch. When you get acting like that (and not the 'good' kind of awkward, not entertaining, not artful, not well executed, just cringe-worthy) you recast, or you cut it. The show already has a million characters and loose ends to potentially spend time on, and we are over 25 % done already, why include that artistically embarrassing scene?
Overall I think it was on par with the other episodes this season though. I liked the use of music....slightly more music in this one.

Re: Part 5 (SPOILERS)
Well put, I can't say I disagree. I will still watch it again with subs because that's how I am hahaTaperecorder wrote: I loved that part! I noticed that it was something Lynch started exploring in The Straight Story. There were a few scenes where Alvin Straight was staying with a family while his riding lawn mower was being repaired. He would be talking with them but the camera would be just a tad out of earshot and you couldn't quite make out what they were saying. I thought this was lovely. Because the words of the conversation were not as important as the connection he'd made with the family. Norma was watching the body language and facial expressions and could read something was wrong without hearing. I like how we were allowed to do that with her as well. Just my $00.02
I wanted to mention this having seen the scene again. I didn't see any Hawaii related items or speech. It's completely out of his system now? In the book I feel like he'd retired there after losing his licence. Guess that didn't last, thankfully!Esselgee wrote:I'm guessing that Jacoby isn't married anymore. Also, he probably doesn't have his home in Hawaii either. Did the book mention anything?
Re: Part 5 (SPOILERS)
I'm still super giddy about actually having new Twin Peaks to watch. I love this season so far. I've noticed when I write my posts about the episodes, I like to start with what I didnt like. After rewatching and watching later episodes I regret my dislikes. I also dont like when I read other peoples dislikes especially when its a scene I really like. I much prefer reading when someone enjoys a scene.... Its weird that I love the new series but can't help but want things from it. Even tho its wrong I'm gonna start with what I didn't like about episode 5.
--I wish it had more dialogue. I don't seem to be able to develop feelings for the characters enough. I really hope this changes. Its skipping around too much. I guess I want it more like the original which I know is wrong. But I felt they let you get to know the characters better in the original. The new series seems like a riddle every scene, and the lines delivered are very slow. Lets get some character development please (other than Cooper)
Now for what I liked....
--Becky high in the car might be my fav scene so far in the new series. loved the song and the feelings it provoked. Pure Lynch.
--The lady that sent that blackberry message, she sure seems scared to send that message. To who? Jeffries most likely.. Maybe that message had to do with Cooper not being killed yet. She messages the number 2.....not sure what it means, but the box light beeped twice. The wondering about it is great.
--The music after the car blew up was great. I wonder what is up with the drugged up mother and her son. They might know something about Dougie. I also think there might be some merit to Dopplecoops playing card that he carries around with him and the drugged up mom. Her having the deck of cards and a safety pin on the table, and then the card DoppleCoop carries has pin scratches all over it, seems like a big clue. maybe not. love all the mysteries.
--I like that with every episode I enjoy the new series more.
EDIT: forgot to include Dr. Jacoby shovelling out of the shit was hillarious.
-- Lynch picked some very beautiful women to be in Twin Peaks again...I think I'm in love with a few of them.
-- David Lynch is still my favorite director, and he's created some more art with this new series. A true modern day artist.
--Lastly, Kyle is absolutely amazing in the new series. I've written that for every episode review I've done and its still true. He is an amazing actor.
Side note....I wonder what will bring Carl Rodd into the new story, I'm looking forward to some Carl Rodd....where are the Chalfonts? and not a word about Annie or Chester Desmond yet?

Re: Part 5 (SPOILERS)
When we met Dougie, he was wearing the Owl Cave ring with Jade — not his wedding band that was found in Major Briggs' (?) body. Gotta wonder about the events in between.

Re: Part 5 (SPOILERS)
I found Candy Clark's performance as Doris quite funny, in keeping with the long winded tirades and speeches that Sheriff Frank Truman has to put up with (and reacts to in Robert Foster's typical style)..and speaking of reactions, Doris's reaction to Frank saying the pipes will be fixed tomorrow (her jaw drops and she whips open her coat like she's flashing him) was hilarious...I'll take Candy Clark's Doris over Michael Cera's boring, poorly acted, poorly paced, worst Brando impression ever ANY day (talk about a nothing scene going on forever).

Re: Part 5 (SPOILERS)
"Was bad" is maybe your way of saying it made you uncomfortable? Sort of like the Cera scene perhaps? I hope you don't feel you've got the corner on what is and isn't artistic. This is one fantastic and true scene, absolutely sopt on and not one very many people could create. If you are looking for realism, just look through the artifice to find it. Do you feel Nadine's rants were more artistically sound, or maybe more traditionally comedic? Anyway, these are rhetorical questions, to each their own.Agent327 wrote: True, but they don't drag them into long story arcs, like they did in season 2.

What?!? It was a wonderful, hilarious scene which was one of the better non-horror scenes in all five episodes. I and everyone I was watching the show with were totally cracking up. Truman's quiet stoicism in the fact of his wife's over-the-topness was funny as hell.Agent327 wrote: That scene you mention though, with Truman's wife was incredibly bad, and shows worryingly questionable judgement from Lynch. Re: Part 5 (SPOILERS)
did anybody catch how the scene with Blackberry lady sorta mirrored the druggie lady's pill ritual? The way she sets it on the desk and hesitantly stares at it? Maybe a coincidence but knowing the mirroring and stuff going on it made me suspicious.
Re: Part 5 (SPOILERS)
Ben Horne was part of One Eyed Jacks in some way. He was funneling women there for prostitution and he knew about Leo's activities. Ben was involved in some way. I am sure Frank is a good cop, but Harry was the soul of that department. The department is diminished even if its a small way. Becky's boyfriend has that same creepy vibe Leo had. Jacoby is totally scamming people by using his rant to sell a false hope. He might as well be selling Miracle Water.BigEd wrote:Are you missing anything? Yes, a few things:lotjx2 wrote: -Bad Cooper. DoopleCoop has ties to Jefferies, our friends in the FBI and the murder in South Dakota. We think the military is getting involved with the murder, because of Major Briggs who may or may not be the headless body in South Dakota not the ones in New York. The body contains a ring from Dougie, so...
-Twin Peaks. Our Friendly Neighborhood is once again besieged by a drug trader that once again involves the Horne family. This time a super secret member, maybe, and a dirty Twin Peaks Cop. Speaking of our police force, we are minus one Harry Truman thus the entire force is diminished. The Log Lady has given Hawk a mission to find Agent Cooper. We have a new Office Truman who seems more stoic than a statue and probably doesn't care or give a shit about Cooper and has a nagging wife. We do get Bobby who may have to ties to Shelly. We don't know. Shelly's kid is a Laura Palmer wannabe with a potential Leo as a boyfriend. Then there is the Horne's themselves who still own the hotel and a new pot shop thanks to Jerry. All this plus Jacoby trying to scam people to buy shovels. James guest starred to for some reason.
-The Lodges. The Lodges...Those fucking Lodges. Zero clue. Like none. We know forces opened a doorway for Dale to return, but he was thwarted by a tree arm with a head who could be Bob. Could be. We also think that Bob has connections to Evil Dale and has given him supernatural powers. We also think that someone is trying pull something out of the Black Lodge and got a bunch of horny kids killed. A murder the FBI is looking into and we might. We might next week get someone to talk to someone out of these seven camps and forge a chain of events. Maybe.
Am I missing anything?
"Briggs who may or may not be the headless body" - Episode 5 confirmed a finger print match between the headless body and Air Force records of Briggs. There is no longer any doubt.
"once again involves the Horne family" - I don't recall anybody in the Horne family being involved in drug trading in the original series or FWWM
"entire force is diminished" - Frank is filling in for (or has replaced) Harry and it appears that the force is larger than it used to be
"potential Leo as a boyfriend" - that slacker who is partnered with Becky is as far from Leo as North is from the South. Leo worked driving his own truck, spent weekends adding rooms to his house, "encouraged" Shelly to keep the house neat and still found time to take side work as an arsonist. That is a whole lot of (misplaced) drive and initiative. Becky's guy's idea of initiative was to take a half baked resume into a job interview and find satisfaction from the constructive feedback (Mike telling him how awful he was).
"Jacoby trying to scam people to buy shovels" - not sure how this is a scam. Selling a $10 shovel with $5 of added gold spray paint for $30 (plus S&H) is pretty straight. The buyer wants one of these novelties and is willing to pay a few bucks to have something to show to their friends.
Re: Part 5 (SPOILERS)
I'm considering the possibility he's inhabited by The Giant. He makes the same thumbs up gesture as when Senor Droolcup was inhabited by The Giant, and also in that first scene when Sonny meets Coop, Coop's first reaction is to look down and touch his belly where he got shot. Senor Droolcup also was known to be very sad, like in the Roadhouse when he told Coop "I'm sooo sorry".Here Comes That Bob wrote:I cannot quite put my hand around it, but I feel like there's something fishy with Sunny Jim. There's something unnatural with his mannerism and how he acted around Coop. When they showed him in the car, he was blinking very weirdly and than Coop shed a tear. I think him and Janey have some ulterior motives or are hired by someone to play the family.

Going through the cast list, of the 217 actors (and singers) there are roughly 88 left to air that haven't aired yet.
