Love this idea; ridiculous but you're right, I could totally see them just leaving it locked with Twin Peaks logic. Imagine what that room looks like now.
There are a lot of ways they could leave the room untouched/unoccupied. The easiest way is to say Audrey kept the room empty, knowing that Coop would return someday.
True, although I'd really like to think it was never cleaned/opened and is in a state of decay, almost like a haunted house. Impractical to let that kind of rot grow surrounded by luxury - what if it spreads - but could be quite a potent image.
A bit like Sunset Blvd, you say?

Very excited that they decided not to recast either BOB, MFAP, Garland or Harry. I'm very curious how Lynch dealt with the Philip Jeffries character. Of course hoping for David Bowie to show up, but I prefer a clever solution to a recast.

Was the appearance of Buenos Aires in this episode the first indication that The Missing Pieces is canonical to the mythology? Without TMP there would be no association with Philip Jeffries.

Why wouldn't it be canonical?

Loved it!

This episode definitely weirded me out the most.

Cappy wrote: I don't know what else could be in Room 315 of real significance though; maybe Audrey penned some significant letter and slipped it under his door before going to the bank, only for it to get kicked under the bed (again)?

Or maybe the Josie nightstand has somehow ended up in 315.
I think the room already has significance given that it was the location for so many of Cooper's otherworldly encounters (the dream, the Giant's visit, Briggs delivering the message). It could be explained that the room acts as some sort of cosmic conduit, amplifying Cooper's inherent clairvoyance, and perhaps he left an imprint on it after he got stuck in the Lodge, and forces are now pulling him 'home.'

Related to that, it is interesting that, for Dougie Cooper, 'home' is very much implied to be Twin Peaks, even though Cooper only spent about 1 month there!

i was just thinking along these lines. So far, Lynch has bent over backward to avoid any recasts (even though he recast Donna for FWWM).

I would say the odds are against a Jeffries recast. Maybe Jeffries will be a presence hinted at, maybe even heard, but never seen?

Enjoyed the episode, and still feel like we're witnessing artistic history being made here. This is going to go down in history as Lynch's finest work.

The Evil Cooper bits came as a wonderful surprise. The phone bit was great!

Wonderful & Strange wrote: 1. Why aren't people taking Dougie Coop to the Dr? Stop using everyday logic or narrative realism to explain this (or most) aspects to the show. Instead, think in terms of satire or parable. Lynch and Frost are illustrating how people's own interests make them solipsistic to the suffering of others, how their everyday ideology makes it impossible for them to act beyond their own immediate interests. Janey-E and most of Dougie's co-workers are so absorbed in their own concerns that it's impossible for them to act -- not just rationally -- but ethically. For example, Janey-E can only think in terms of Dougie maintaining his job so that they can maintain their bourgeois lifestyle. His behavior frustrates her more than it worries her.
I agree. I thought a lot about our dear Dougie today -- he's kind like a son to all of us, audience's children, I think -- and I was wondering : after "Dougie at the casino", "Dougie eats breakfast" and "Dougie at work", isn't the next step supposed to be "Dougie learns the Alphabet" ? A, B, C, D... :)

Lynch would come full circle here ! That's why I really love the Dougie storyline. Because in a way it feels like what's most original and new compared to Lynch's previous works (the absurd adventure of a grown-man baby), and yet it's something that had always his roots deep in Lynch universe. It's really about the terror of the adult world. That's what I love the most this season.

We love you Dougie !!! :D

Another thing I noticed, this new Richard's intro scene was him smoking with a No Smoking sign in the background, which is very similar to Richard (Dick) Tremayne's first scene.

Well they were largely presented as a Blu Ray extra. I'm not doubting they are but I'm interested if this is the first time anything from TMP resurfaced... The book and the new season being the only place it could.

The Hawk's heritage must be the CASINO.

Does anyone think that evilcoop will impersonate agent coop? Maybe some of those shots we see of Cooper in the trailer are actually evilcoop with short hair and suit?

Actually I thought it was more similar to Audrey's scene where she sticks the pencil in the coffee cup and pulls it out. It seemed like there was more of a parallel (like mother/like son) of defying authority.

mtwentz wrote:Wow, it's amazing how perceptions differ. I felt this episode was not as good as the first 4, though it also had some great moments.
Yeah, true. No one can say I'm not honest and merciless about what I think; though. The sceptic isn't selling out!! ;)

It's still a 'moments' and 'chaff' situation with more chaff than necessary. I did feel there were some standout moments; the sort-of explanation about the BOB/Evil Coop paradigm was long overdue and chillingly done for example. Great to see the actual town and more of the old series' characters. Amanda Seyfried was terrific as the living Laura Palmer equivalent. Was sorry not to see more of Gordon and Albert after last week's (sort-of) cliffhanger. I find myself wishing this show had been nine two-hour episodes, though! For all the remarks by Messrs Lynch and Frost about binge watching, I know I'll appreciate the show a good deal more on subsequent viewings on iTunes and Blu-ray.

It was Coop this week that got to me, though. The tear was heartbreaking. The 'He's lying!' remark gave me goosebumps. What will Coop do with the case reports? Between the BOB appearance and the flash of the old Dale, it felt like something was coming together at last... and not before time. Man! This has been uneven and dragged out, so it had better be worth it!! Also, the Roadhouse at last blended back with the plotline. So, cautiously hopeful Lynch and co will get their arses in gear!

No one seems to have mentioned the brief but sinister music which plays after the 119 woman wakes up at the end of the car bomb scene
