Yes. It's obviously a goof.

Several interviews were done for that book. Some of them years apart.

There were a lot of balloons in Dougie's house from his son's birthday party. Most of them were still in the air but some of them were no longer floating. Maybe this boy got the balloon from Sonny Jim's party.

Also, if Dougie was missing for 3 days wouldn't his wife had called the police? Or was this something that wasn't that unusual for him?
These are reasons people are thinking Jane-Y is manufactured, or a doppleganger, or whatever.

One theory floating is that the D-o-M is the real family that got split into the fake family. She's in an alternate reality (1-1-9!) or the real reality turned on its head. The balloons are for the real Sonny-Jim party. Please notice how RIDICULOUS the party balloons were for the Jane-Y version of Sonny-Jim party (talk about over the top!) In any case, there is some sort of intentional mirroring going on here with D-o-M and child that mirrors Dougie-Coop's new family.

counterpaul wrote: And I absolutely do see Coop in COOPER. A key scene is when he begins to intuit what Ray is up to from talking to Darya. "This is quite an interesting thing to think about. A game begins." As much as it breaks my heart, that is Coop--it's a twisted inversion of Coop, but it's Coop.
It's funny - when I heard that line of dialogue, my first thought is that it sounded like the kind of thing Windom Earle would say. But it makes sense that Cooper would draw from his experience with Earle. Earle taught him everything he knew about being a Special Agent, so we can also assume that Earle taught him a few things about being a villain (only a few things though, I hope).

I haven't seen anyone observe this... :D

Remember when Cooper throws rocks at glass bottles to help solve the mystery? He speaks names to the rocks before throwing and uses his intuition.

Pretty much the same scenario happens in the casino: Cooper rubs a coin each time before inserting it in the machine (and says HEEELLLL-OOOOOOO). Seems to be using an intuitive process like the good Cooper would.

I just realized that the "Happy birthday" balloons in Dougie's home is not only for Sonny Jim, it's also GoodCoop's day of birth, in a way. I doubt it's a coincidence that there's one balloon directly between Cooper and his wife (?) in the first scene in the house. It's in the middle of the camera view as well.
Agent Cooper. Listen to the sounds.
It is in our house now. It all can not be said aloud now.
Remember 4 - 3 - 0
Richard and Linda. Two birds with one stone.
You are far away.

happyrat98 wrote:I just want to tell everyone that halfway through episode 3 I felt like crying. I was so incredibly disappointed and felt like this was the worst trainwreck ever. Episodes 1 and 2 were good but the second Dougie happened I wanted to puke.

But then I read a theory, watched episode 4, and suddenly I think I'm in love.

The doppelganger stated that he had a plan to avoid the lodge. Dougie Jones is a second doppelganger created by the first doppelganger. Instead of the doppelganger, Dougie ends up going back to the lodge. The doppelganger created Dougie Jones, who presumably was leading an actual life, in order to avoid returning to the lodge. Mike tells Dougie that he is created for a purpose that has failed. Dougie then ceases to exist and the real Dale returns to reality, but he is not whole because the real doppelganger still exists. Hence, Mike tells Cooper that one of them must die and that he had been tricked.

Then we move into the FBI getting involved and I think everything is back on track story wise. Cooper still isn't back from the lodge because the doppelganger pulled some twisted lodge shenanigans to stay in the real world. Clearly it will be a while before this is resolved and Cooper is back as we knew him... and I'm okay with that.

Also, here is a prediction: Audrey Horne is the secret billionaire funding the glass box project.
I agree with most of this post. The fact that there is some discontinuity in tone with the Return and the original series is understandable. The original series was a collaboration between Lynch and Frost with Frost having more control over the whole of the series while Lynch was distracted with other matters like "Wild at Heart". With the Return, Lynch is obviously much more in control. So, I see more similarity between the new series and "Inland Empire" or "Mulholland Drive" than with the original series. That's just where Lynch is as a filmmaker. However, I think the series will go to fruitful places if viewers stay with it and keep their patience.
