Re: Part 6 - Don't die (SPOILERS)
I also just realized that the mother and son were still playing their game... she let him run out into the street and he stopped for her to chase him!
It's interesting to see clips from the trailers in context. We figured that HDS was sitting on the park bench and looking up at something/someone dramatic and important when he was just looking at the trees.

Please count me in that group as well , this episode was fantastic.N. Needleman wrote:I'm glad we're the two lunatics who think each episode is better than the last, Snailhead.

I am actually devastated every time I check the timer on the episode and realise it's ending. I am SO invested in this show I can't even deal - just brilliant.

That's what I'm wondering, and it is freaking me out. I just rewatched that episode last weekend. There's no other person who could've had them* or hidden them there, unless Dopplecoop doubled back himself.Rudagger wrote:I wonder if they'll retcon it as Philip Gerard having somehow found and placed them in there when he was in the sheriffs station (when he had his freak out and had to take his injection)

Also it's hard to sort of state how something should be without digesting the entire thing. I certainly have some opinions on how things should or shouldn't be, but i'm essentially waiting until it finishes before I start projecting those.N. Needleman wrote:I can't imagine this being halved. It's so rich. It sure isn't as punishing a slog as, say, Jacques Rivette's Out 1 which I think is like 12 90-minute episodes, and in a year I've gotten through maybe three despite being a big fan.

Re: Part 6 - Don't die (SPOILERS)
When there was talk about more Twin Peaks movies directly after FWWM, I imagined maybe 2 more making a trilogy.
Now if they had done 9 two hour parts, that's like 3 trilogies worth!
I did like seeing parts 1 & 2 and 3 & 4 together. If I did a rewatch after it's all done, I think I would do 2 parts together at a time.
Currently I think I've watched everything 3 times which I've never done for any other TV show. For the 2 rewatches I generally am looking at details or background bits like the numbers, Silver, Gold, rings, colours etc. I only saw the green flash on Sizemore's face after someone pointed it out here. There is so much to digest, I don't think I would appreciate it all if it had all been available to binge from day one. I need a week to digest and read all these posts!

Re: Part 6 - Don't die (SPOILERS)
Harry Dean Stanton is so great. I hope he figures more prominently in the episodes to come.
The scene with the kid and mom leading up to the horrifying hit & run was kind of weird. The "catch me" game they were playing was just bizarre (run 20 feet away, look back, and have the other person catch you?). But: it did kind of look look Dale running from his doppelganger and getting caught.

Re: Part 6 - Don't die (SPOILERS)
I like whoever (Jonah?) suggested these different storylines resemble "vignettes." THat's the word I'm keeping in mind when I get restless wanting either for more connection among them or more resolution.
Small details I wondered who else noticed: why did Duncan Todd use a kerchief or tissue to handle the envelope he pulled from the safe? Did he have a reason for not wanting to be traced as authorizing (or putting in motion) the hit on Dougie Droolcup or the lady whose photos were inside?
***
The traffic light went through 3 cycles, green>> yellow>> red. I could swear when we've seen it before in Season 1 it only went through one color change not two. Probably not significant but I always wanted to read more into that traffic light. Probably just represents the electricity theme now.
***
Dougie/ Coop as it's been paced in episodes til now have had me gritting my teeth, especially in Part 5. Mainly I'm frustrated his own family isn't more alarmed (instead of merely frustrated, as Janey-E is) that someone who's been a husband and father, with his own vanity plates cementing his identity, isn't more noticeable for his brain-damaged or personality-altered behavior. Her mention she'd "Take [you] to see the doctor" won't explain for me why everyone still accommodates his bizarre new look, drastic weight loss, halted speech. When Janey lectures the goons "You want to take a long hard look at yourselves" I just wanted to yell "Then why don't you take a good long look at your own husband??"
THere's probably a purpose, as with his ability to sense light effects and odd orbs and intuit deeper meanings within the paperwork of his case files so that he's not completely an empty shell -- I'm aware his blurting out "He's lying" in Part 5 is the only time he speaks that isn't a phrase he's repeating back from what someone else said. Also the writers must have a purpose for strangers to be more observing-out-loud he seems to have something wrong, as the cops in this Part 6, or the guy's girlfriend when he recognized Dougie in the casino saying "Is he all right".
Like the Giant told him at the beginning of Part 1, "You're very far away." Yes, he is. And before my trial subscription with hulu is up next week I might be waiting until these are all played out and I can rent em to find what happens next. It's taking a long time for anything to happen.

Agreed. Especially since the beginning of Part 6 picks up *directly* where Part 5 ended.Qubism wrote: I did like seeing parts 1 & 2 and 3 & 4 together. If I did a rewatch after it's all done, I think I would do 2 parts together at a time.
Re: Part 6 - Don't die (SPOILERS)
I'll admit that I wasn't sure about this new incarnation of Twin Peaks at first - I felt what pretty much all of the profoundly disappointed have expressed feeling.
But then I re-watched parts 1-5 a second time, and it all kind of fell into place. Without the expectations and without wondering when I'm finally gonna see x character, it's beautiful stuff. It's the kind of material that is incredibly frustrating the first time round (like FWWM, Lost Highway, Mulholland Drive, and INLAND EMPIRE) but that I feel is going to endure the test of time - just like the Lynch films I've just listed.
Maybe Part 6 isn't the best one yet, but it sure feels like it, and that's probably because I feel like I'm now fully acclimatized to what Lynch & Frost are going for. I think a big part of it is actually the fact that I just really didn't like the Chromatics song at the Roadhouse at the end of Part 2 and that sort of left a bad taste in my mouth.
edit: And I was totally thinking of Philip Gerard/MIKE in the bathroom from S2 during part 6 of S3 !!

Re: Part 6 - Don't die (SPOILERS)
Is anyone else dissapinted with the lack of Palmers these last three or so episodes?
I expected Leland to have a bigger role then just him saying find Laura...
Also expected Sarah and Laura to pop up a bit more. Maybe they're saving them for later but it's one thing I wish we'd get more of.

Re: Part 6 - Don't die (SPOILERS)
Why do any people react how they do to weirdness on Twin Peaks? It's the strange banality of that world. We've been given enough information about Dougie the golem/familiar created by the Black Lodge to know that his bizarre behavior is apparently taken for granted by the humdrum world he lives in. It's also partly a Jacques Tati/Being There satirical riff. But really, it's (IMO) no different from how the Great Northern guests laughed off Leland's outpouring of grief. But yeah, nothing about Dougie or his existence is normal - it's kind of 'charmed'. And now so is Cooper.Framed_Angel wrote:Dougie/ Coop as it's been paced in episodes til now have had me gritting my teeth, especially in Part 5. Laura is my favorite of all time but I'm not worried about the Palmers. They're clearly saving them (and, it would seem, Audrey).
