But I sure hope I'm wrong!

However, if we don't see Diane, I will be Profoundly Pissed Off!
I was wrong, hooray!
And I'm not profoundly pissed off even though the Diane character was slightly disappointing.

I enjoyed it a lot more on the second viewing.
Fantastic.

I hope so! You may be onto something considering this age of so called Tragedy Porn. Rather than taking action, people tend to latch onto being upset, then endlessly bitch and complain and "speak out", claiming to be deeply affected by events, but it's all dramatics and zero action. They are unknowing addicts.

The scene definitely could point to something like that: No one lifts a finger!

I'm sure this has been discussed, but we're not supposed to know exactly what Tony Sinclair did wrong by looking at the insurance forms, correct? I'm not talking about fan fiction theories, but rather something that's obvious on the pages themselves. Clearly it's some form of insurance fraud, but has it been shown yet?

I don't think so. I looked very closely at the forms and nothing jumped out.

It seemed to me that Cooper had circled the names of the investigators in each case. I got the impression that Tony was getting the investigators to deliver a certain conclusion in order to force the insurance company to pay out when they should not be. In return Tony, the policy owner, and I assume the two investigators, all got a piece of the insurance payout. Example: Someone submits a claim that their house was broken into and valuables were stolen. In reality, they maybe busted their own door in and nothing is missing. The hand-picked investigators conclude that a break-in occurred and submit the report to the insurance company who then pays out for a robbery that never occurred. Pretty much your basic fraud right there.

iirc in one case he also circled the names of two police officers, see bushnells "disturbing, to say the least"

Sharon van Etten's song has some interesting ties to the plot: "Slow it was seven / I wish it was seven all night" (seven is a lucky number of Lynch's and a recurring theme; see Lucky Seven Insurance).

Even more intriguing: "Send in the owl / Tell me I'm not a child." Possibly hinting at DougieCoop's awakening?

7 Nephilim = the seven gods of the solar system/Gods of Mt Olympus. The seven musical scales (Pythagorean; sacred geometry.) Seven is important in esoteric thought:

She's been playing that song live since at least 2013.

I know! But I think DKL chose the song for its strong associations with the story.

I am very curious how many (if any) songs were commissioned specifically for the show.

what i read was that all, or at least most of the bands, were recorded at the same time. so there was a special invite to The Roadhouse location and there was a party with 16 artists playing one after the other. this was then edited by Lynch, if you notice the songs like Chromatics and Trouble which is intercut with what's happening at the roadhouse you never see the band playing in the background at all.

considering that we got a full Nine Inch Nails track in THE MIDDLE of ep. 8 i think it's safe to assume that there will be a musical outro or interlude every Part... or will there? Pts. 1 and 2 was considered one unit so there was only one song for those two Parts and i would think episodes 17 and 18 will do the same. not sure if 18 will have one, but at least one of them will be without a musical interlude. that's my guess.

I'm curiously drawn to this band-of-the-week format. It feels partly like a 'featuring...' segment in a weekly programme, rather than incidental narrative in a serial, which for me helps watch the show with all senses tingling.

Part 7 didn't have a live band. I guess you're counting the sweeping/Booker T scene?

haha yeah i forgot about that one.. but i still found it interesting that all the live acts were performed and recorded on the same day and night. special invitation only... my favorite performance so far is without a doubt the Nine Inch Nails song, the way it was filmed, the energy of the song and the visuals, the crazy introduction, and the way it broke the mold by having it being an intermission in the actual episode.

the only thing that worries me about these musical segments it that many of the songs will tend to date the series in a way that Julee Cruise's etheral music in S01 and S02 never did.
