My response to Part 9: http://www.lostinthemovies.com/2017/07/ ... chair.html. This week I focused a lot on some of my reservations/questions about the new series. I was leaning toward doing this anyway, since we've reached the midpoint, but the most recent hour facilitated this approach too. I probably wouldn't call it my least favorite so far, but it did feel like the weakest in a lot of ways. In relative terms, anyway; I still enjoyed it quite a bit.

Don't know if this has been discussed but I found it interesting how similar the patterns on the chairs are in the black and white scenes with those in Garlands house. This in turn reminded me of Briggs being the surrounded by greenery in season 2.ImageImageImageImage

I attached two screen shots of the chairs.
You think these chairs look alike?

Yes, the fabric used to upholster the two chairs looks the same.

Wasn't there a rumor in the pipeline that Cooper is supposed to awaken in episode 13? Take everything with a grain of salt I know, but with how things have been moving and the next episode title in mind I have a feeling it might happen then if not sooner.

Great write-up, as always. I'm not sure I notice a pattern, other than one of utter unpredictability. I just see each Part ebbing and flowing, one to the next, and within each Part, each moment ebbing and flowing as well; exposition and plot take over at the points in the story they should, and sometimes comprise an entire Part. Who could have expected that Part 7 would give us so much, for example? There was nothing in the previous six parts to prepare us for that, and if there was it was Part 4, which was previously the most Twin Peaksy foray, but which was an even numbered Part. I just see all of this as a rhythmic thing, though I agree that it was very curious that the least experimental Part followed the most experimental. But then again, that's just the rhythm of the piece, imo.

Another thing you wrote there, about the real world trauma not quite being there to match the fantasy elements...I guess it remains to be seen, but I do think that Part 8 dropped a pretty big underpinning for everything Lodge related and the evil that men do in the form of the atomic bomb. I feel like since we're dealing with such a sprawl here, and since the original series already covered the small-town, human trauma beneath the fantasy elements, that everything fantastical happening in The Return already has real-world relevance that was significantly underpinned by the events of Part 8.

That's a very specific rumor. Wonder where that came about?

We have certain promos from Showtime at the beginning of this run which clearly show a "woke" Cooper so I am hoping it's soon! Yes, next episode title sounds ominous.

I KNOW. Took me right out of the scenes. She was such a tweaker though, maybe she didn't notice? (Grasping at straws here...)
The only reason this is possible is that the can actually made the sound of an empty can. I think that this type of sounds are created in studios, so it could've been totally deliberate.

I hope so, at least because it was incredibly distracting.

She's a construct/doppleganger in the dougie mode. Laura will replace her.

Oh yeah, good point for some reason in my head I toggled the order of 3/4 to fit the pattern!

"everyone" doesn't. Many others here have expressed your view.

Will Hastings now be released from jail? He has admitted to the affair (contrary to his initial interview), and both his wife and secretary have been killed while he is in jail. It's funny that he said he gave his secretary a ride because she was having car trouble, and now the car has blown up. With them now identifying Briggs' body, it should be evident that there is much more going on here than a guy having a secret affair with the librarian.

I would assume he would be released from jail. I guess I'm not convinced we'll even see him again, except maybe seeing him released. It's possible we may just hear he was released. I feel like we're nearing the end of the South Dakota location and characters.
