Battis' book (shown here) is the big one where they switched it to 1990. There may be another one or two? But by season 2 they had switched back to 1989.laughingpinecone wrote:thefifthlizard wrote:You're referring to Lauras diary, right?laughingpinecone wrote: ...as they already did in 1990,

I know this sounds silly, but to me it sounds more like a VHS tape than a cassette. Also, when the tape stops rewinding, it sounds like the VHS automatically begins playing the grainy, flawed video. I'm dating myself here (proudly!), but many VHS players did just that. They would automatically begin playing the tape they had just rewound.thefifthlizard wrote:One theory so far has been that it's Coopers tape rewindingmadeleineferguson wrote:Is the ominous sound playing over the video simply a VHS tape rewinding?

i agree that its a vcr.. sounds exactly the same and the video ends like a poor quality vhs that cuts to static..

To be honest, I expected several continuity errors to occur in both novel and series and I'm not going to let them bother me. Exciting stuff all around.
This is - excuse me - a damn fine cup of coffee.

What more it wouldn't irk me all too much if minor details were deliberatly changed if it serves the new narrative. I'm very psyched

1. Shame about the date. Was really hoping for 2014. Oh well.
2. If Norma's parents' last name is Lindstrom, where does Blackburn come in?
3. The Log Lady's maiden name appears to be Coulson, which is nice. But that tattoo is actually Major Briggs' tattoo, NOT Margaret's.

Re: 'The Secret History of Twin Peaks' novel by M. Frost 10/18
I think there's a real difference between finger wagging and questioning...
I won't ever wag my finger at Mark Frost or David Lynch over continuity. They're the creators, and that's that.
But I will question something if it seems amiss. And the memo from Gordon Cole instructs the recipient to look over the dossier for comprehensive analysis. People like us, who seriously know the show, are going to recognize any discrepancies, and catalog them. Personally, I do it because I'm curious and wonder if such discrepancies are clues that will be explained later. But I'll never pretend to know the show better than the creators, and I think it's a mistake for anyone to take that position.
The fact of the matter is that trailer (for a damned book!) was thrilling. Foreboding, dreadful, Lynchian perfection. And I am beyond excited.

1. I'm somewhat forgiving of dates on this show since over the course of 2 (calendar) years of television, the show covered 30-some days.dugpa wrote:SighRoss wrote:Some quick thoughts:

2. This could so easily be explained away by Norma's mother remarrying it doesn't bother me.
3. Alternate universe is the only thing I can come up with. Otherwise this one is supremely annoying.

Total agreement. Swapping the tattoos is just sloppy.Ross wrote:Too nit-picky, or sigh in agreement?dugpa wrote:SighRoss wrote:Some quick thoughts:

It's a head-scratcher for sure. If it does indeed end up being just a mistake, it really is awfully sloppy- and so easily avoidable. At this point though- who knows? Perhaps there's a reason behind it. No idea how- but we shall see.dugpa wrote:Total agreement. Swapping the tattoos is just sloppy.
The weird thing is, the correct tattoo for the log lady is actually featured on the cover of the book (underneath the dust jacket). I believe that was only seen in the leaked (then pulled) pics from this morning.
