Just occurred to me that this bit is almost certainly a little jab at the manner in which DKL would “oversee” the series, particularly in the second season.

Recipe not my own. In a coffee cup. 3 TBS flour, 2 TBS sugar, 1.5 TBS cocoa powder, .25 TSP baking powder, pinch of salt. 3 TBS milk, 1.5 TBS vegetable oil, 1 TBS peanut butter. Add and mix each set. Microwave 1 minute 10 seconds. The cup will be hot.

Based on Room to Dream, I suspect the bird-shooting incident may have come from DKL. He tells a similar anecdote in RtD about casually firing at a bird figuring he would never hit it and hitting it dead center, and on the audiobook he comes across as a little disturbed at the realization that perhaps he did mean to shoot the bird.
