Very sililar story, in a very popular issue of an Italian comic, dated 1999.
Lewis and Clark, Gordon Cole, Red Room....

Maybe Mark Frost read it?

An Italian comic, 1999.
Inspired to TP...but, 16 years earlier, refers to Lewis and Clark in Ghostwood, and there is the ring!

Haha niiice! Lewis and Clark have been part of the Twin Peaks canon since '91, though. Someone at Bonelli must be a respectable, Access Guide-owning nerd and I hope they feel good about themselves now :D

It's a homage! That publisher references a lot of pop culture across all its series, sometimes it's just a cameo (on par with that one X-Files comic referencing TP), sometimes it's closer to a full-blown crossover. Here's another one of their characters in a story that's heavily inspired by the videogame Myst, for example: http://www.ubcfumetti.com/mag/videogiochi8e.gif

Yeah, there's no shocking discovery here. The comic is basically fan fiction that riffs on the Lewis and Clark mention in the Access Guide. Since Mark Frost is probably the source of the original Lewis and Clark reference, it's hardly surprising that he chose to pick up that thread for "Secret History". I doubt Mark has ever seen the comic.

I don't think that's homage. If that's homage, the you should see how many homages I paid during my exams :D
