Interview with Andreas Halskov, author of TV Peaks

Post by LostInTheMovies »

We discuss the six paradoxes of David Lynch, whether he is a postmodernist, the role of Mark Frost, his video essay collaborations, and the anecdote about Gilles Jacob advising Lynch to revise Fire Walk With Me.

Andreas
finished the book...wonderful read

and googled TWINK PEAKS

lol

so i love von Trier and love and own Riget I-II
i am behind on other "Nordic Noir"
Bron/Broen looks interesting but i'm asking your advice in which series i should start with (and what is readily available for viewing).
I don't want to see U.S. remakes...sort of a purest in that sense.

I wanted to watch Forbrydelsen but did not at the time...life threw some curve balls that needed to be attended to

any advice is greatly appreciated.

I am so happy to hear that you like it, Steve. "Bron/Broen" or "Nordskov" would be a good place to start. Alternatively, you could watch "Forbrydelsen" (which I think is slightly less interesting than "Bron/Broen", to be honest, and slightly more derivative of "Twin Peaks"). In Sweden, they are doing some interesting and peaksy TV shows these days, and "Ängelby" looks interesting. Still, there is nothing quite like "Twin Peaks", and I think Trier is closest to hitting that same tonality and vibe. It might be derivative of David Lynch, but "Riget I-II" are still the most Lynchian of all Scandinavian TV shows, I think.

I hope this is helpful. I am very happy to hear that you like the book.

Sincerely,
Andreas
