Was Twin Peaks a soap parody? “No, no, no, no, no. It is a soap opera. Soap operas grow out of life and because they’re continuing stories you get to go deeper into the characters’ lives ... It just triggers more and more and more – and happy accidents come.”

I always considered the show a blend of soap opera parody and supernatural horror, but Lynch doesn't agree that it's a parody. Thoughts?
Lynch insists Twin Peaks is a soap opera, not a soap opera parody.

I was very glad when I first heard Lynch say that. The whole "Twin Peaks is satire", "campy", or "over exaggerated" comments and claims were never justified under solid evidence from its creators. people just assumed their takes on the show were correct. Sure, a lot of Lynch's work is ambiguous, but I still wish more TP fans could see this. My feeling is that Lynch and Frost just made what they thought a soap opera could/should be, without thinking about the current climate of television at the time.

No idea but it was funny to read this part
this was only a few months before the initial S3 announcement
Would he consider creating new Twin Peaks stories?
“In another life, yes.”
How about in this life?
“Like I say, you never say never.”

I see there was an earlier thread discussing some of this - viewtopic.php?t=3682
