Anyone agree that this soundtrack is possibly his best?

Of course everything Angelo, David and others come up with for the various movies are simply awe inspiring, but i feel personally that Lost Highway has the best of them all. Incredibly wide ranging styles. Beautifully melancholy pieces from Badalamenti and others. 'Fred's World' in particular is the most haunting yet beautiful piece of music i have ever heard. And amazing techno/industrial soundscapes mixed in amongst some real heavy but appropriate modern day rock/metal.
The soundtrack really goes a long way to making the film as astounding as it is. Who else loves thsi particular soundtrack?

I do! It's my favourite soundtrack, along with FWWM soundtrack. As you said, every Lynch/Badalamenti soundtrack is unbelievably good and each one has an outstanding moment.
For example, the MD soundtrack has Jitterbug and Llorando whilst Blue Velvet has some beautiful orchestral pieces. IE is going to have Polish Poem and Sinnerman (im sure) but overall Lost Highway has many many outstanding moments. A lot of people see it as a controversial soundtrack with such an emphasis on metal, but hand in hand with the film it creates some poweful moments! For me Bowie's 'I'm Deranged' along side the opening and closing credits creates one of my favourite moments of cinema. IE closing credits will run it close mind!

Agreed! Seeing Trent Reznor working in conjunction with Lynch brought my two favorite worlds together.

I bought Bowie's 'Outside' (or '1.Outside' to give the full title) on the strength of 'I'm Deranged' and was not disappointed. In fact there are a fair few songs that are even better on the album.

The Lost Highway soundtrack sure does give a great mix of different music, and I certainly think that using popular rock music fits in with the story.
I particularly enjoy Barry Adamson's contributions - in fact I wouldn't mind hearing his music alongside other Lynch films in the future.
My only concern would be that in a few years down the line this soundtrack might 'date' the film somewhat, but otherwise I'd agree - it rocks.

This soundtrack is my least favorite, because of those NIN/Manson/Rammstein/Pumpkins tracks..

I have to admit that this is one of my favourites too - the sequencing flows real well, and it's fit with the film is total (which is pretty much the same with all Lynch films anyway!). My only disappointment was that more of Angelo's music wasn't included (thinking of the music that plays when Pete questions his parents about "that night" or when he takes the bus to break into Andy's house amongst other missing score music). A double CD would be awesome! I agree that Barry Adamson's contributions work real well too.

This is one I play more than most - good cd for the car too (and a lot of soundtracks/scores don't really suit that too well).

Might give Mr Bowie's album a try, as per 'Henry's Hair'..

Couldn't agree more. I remember being in the cinema when that Rammstein track came on, making me think "who is the second-rate Laibach?" ;]

As much as I like the This Mortal Coil sequence, I'm so pleased that Lynch couldn't afford it for Blue Velvet and we got Mysteries of Love instead.

Not one of my favorite soundtracks as a "stand-alone"

BUT I think it does fit the film perfectly, so in that context it is a great soundtrack, especially the Rammstein and This Mortal Coil tracks.

My favorite tracks from this great soundtrack are Marilyn Mansons version of I put a spell on you, Lou Reed with this magic moment, David Bowies I'm deranged and my absolute favorite song is Insensatez from Antonio Carlos Jobim. In my opinion it's really hard to say if this is the best soundtrack out of all of Lynchs movies because nearly all of them are fantastic to me, some more some less. The only thing that disappointed me about the Lost highway soundtrack was the fact that it didn't include the This Mortal Coil track song to the siren.

I'm curious - has anyone seen an extended version of the 'Hollywood Sunset' track? The film uses a much longer version than is included on the CD and I'm eager to get hold of it - tried iTunes etc.. but no luck anywhere so far...
thanks!

My favorite soundtrack is easily FWWM, but I'd have to put this one second.

Like lostandfound 2 posts above me, I love "Hollywood Sunset", and the track as heard in the movie goes on for at least six minutes, as opposed to the paltry two minutes we get on the CD....and yes, it's a track one can get lost in and not want to come back. 8)

Not a fan of the Rammstein music, but that's okay, the whole shebang is a fascinating package and selection of music, and I do wish the OST was more inclusive of some of the great Badalamenti music we only hear in the movie....

...and the menu screen on the Region 1 DVD has a great tune that sounds like Barry Adamson. I need to find that too, because his work is just amazing, and a perfect fit for Lynch, in this movie or anything else. 8)

His album Oedipus Schmoedipus features the uncut version of "Something Wicked This Way Comes", running at 4:33 minutes as opposed to the LS OST's 2:55 minutes. http://www.amazon.com/Oedipus-Schmoedip ... B000003Z4E The rest of the album is incredible, and definite worth getting!

Here's hoping we see previously unreleased tracks from Lost Highway showing up at davidlynch.com! :)
