Re: Lost Highway US DVD Now Available
Why didn't they release it on Blu-Ray after all these years?
Re: Lost Highway US DVD Now Available
It takes a while for Catalog titles to get released on Blu-Ray. Maybe if Lost Highway sells well, they will do a Blu-Ray release...
Re: Lost Highway US DVD Now Available
I believe I saw this topic discussed elsewhere, but upon inital review (preview really, I barely find the time to get through my Netflix queue let alone revisit my old Lynchian favorites in their entirety) I was not pleased with the quality of this DVD release. Picture-wise it seemed OK - but not up-to-par with past DL releases. Also, the audio quality seemed really poor. I recall someone mentioning that they though this was 'Lynch approved'. I highly doubt that. Quality aside, the man seems obsessed with ridding the world of chapter stops and this R1 release is abundant in them. Regardless - overall I was very disappointed. I'm probably not alone when I say that I've been waiting for this release state-side since the inception and popularization of DVD. How long has it been? Ten years? Eleven? I realize that David is a probably a very busy person - but for having such a tremendous following of obsessed fans, you'd think he could have at least paid attention. I have a feeling that perhaps he wasn't given the artistic liberties he's been accostomed to in recent years, and so the project wasn't interesting enough to warrant his time. Not a knock on Lynch so much as the system in general I guess. Anyone out there have any recommendations as to a superior alternative? My hunger for a quality transfer of Lost Highway has been re-awakened...
Re: Lost Highway US DVD Now Available
The region 2 PAL releases from Cinema Club and MK2 have a slightly better picture quality and a DTS track. Just keep in mind that the consensus in the discussion thread on this forum is that these releases (they're identical) are inaccurate in colour and brightness. You should turn up the saturation a bit and turn the brightness way down for it to resemble what it looked like in cinemas. The new release looks inferior, but it's probably closer to what it looked like in cinemas. See the discussion threads for more info and links to online reviews.

I have the MK2/Cinema Club version and I have to tell you it is amazing! Had to get one of those DVD players that play all regions of course...

They recommend the MK2/Cinema Club Version for picture, sound and extras.

Have you read the discussion here? I don't think it's as obvious as DVDBeaver wants us to think. Some of the images look nothing like how I remember it from the cinema.

Yes, I have. Maybe it depends on your cinema and screen at home.Evenreven wrote:Have you read the discussion here? I don't think it's as obvious as DVDBeaver wants us to think. Some of the images look nothing like how I remember it from the cinema.
For me, I saw it at the Laemmle where the Virgin Megastore used to be on Sunset Boulevard--was just an okay theater. Saw the MK2/Cinema Club DVD on a high-end TV at a friends house (my little TV is not great) and it looked really beautiful. Obviously for me the DVD will never replace the sound and feeling from a real theater but the quality of the MK/Cinema Club2 DVD was pretty impressive nonetheless.
I stand by the MK2/Cinema Club DVD... it's a beautiful thing.
Not to mention all the extras and very cool packaging.

After almost 10 ten years, LH went back to catalogue in Brazil.
