I've always found it... I don't want to say distracting, but certainly the most memorable visual element to Jeffrey Beaumont's character. Do you think David Lynch wanted this cowlick? Or was it an unavoidable effect of Kyle's haircut at the time? I've found that it makes him appear so innocent and all the more out of his element.
Am I reading way too much into this? Because I can't not focus on it...

Ha. Can't believe we're talking about this but...
You're referring to the spiked part of his hair. It's not really a cowlick. It's been cut that way. A very 80's style. Look at any band videos from the 80's like Talk Talk, etc. you'll see similar hairstyles.
Anyway, you're "totally" right. It definitely compliments the character adding to the "gee whiz" innocent hardy boys look. One of those films that happened in the right place at the right time.
