How can we get a season 4? Cancel Showtime.

Post by djsunyc »

showtime said the biggest spike in subscribers happened the same day as part 1. imho, the only way showtime can get a true guage on twin peaks effect is to cancel it the day after the finale since it's a network that's driven by subscriber-ship and not necessarily ratings.

I subscribed to Showtime for one show and that show is Twin Peaks. I plan on cancelling mine once it's over.

I am on board.
But for those of us who cancel, it should be sent with a clear message that they'll get back our service and our money if they renew Twin Peaks.

I'm contemplating throwing them a bone and pledging that I'll subscribe again the moment they officially announce a fourth season instead of waiting for it to come back.

Going by those quotes from the Showtime exec in the articles floating around, I get the impression that it's largely up to Lynch and Frost whether or not anything further happens with Twin Peaks.

In any case, do what y'all want, but I'm going to keep Showtime for awhile. So I can watch "The Return" again. And again. And again. Until a Blu-ray set comes out.

yeah, exactly. I think this is entirely up to Lynch/Frost and if they want to continue.

On my end, it shows that the shows expire... Very soon. However, I want to keep my subscription for Billions alone. That's a great show.

It's obviously up to Lynch & Frost but they'll do it only if the fans have lust for more. I'm reserving judgement until we see the finale but I do think there are more stories to be told in the world of Twin Peaks...
This is - excuse me - a damn fine cup of coffee.

How can we get a season 4? Cancel Showtime.

Yeah, it's really up to L/F if we'll get another season not Showtime so the cancellation plan seems kind of pointless to me.

This is a really misguided idea. Showtime is interested in creating subscribers - loyal customers interested in the kind of content they produce. If "Twin Peaks" can help create that kind of subscribers then Showtime will want to keep the show around. If they see that the show only brings in people that bail as soon as a season ends, then it is simply not a working business model for them. Stick with Showtime for a bit and we just might get what we want.

I'm also inclined not to cancel. I think Showtime should be rewarded for taking such an unprecedented risk.

Might writing to Showtime en masse to thank them for TPTR and to encourage them to greenlight similar, risky, artist-driven series be a better idea? I'm not talking about any kind of aggressive or demanding campaign a la COOP (they aren't cancelling the show, after all--by all reports, the door is open to L/F if they want to do more), but more just a vocal outpouring of support, to let them know, unequivocally, that there is demand for this kind of programming.

Personally, I'd not only love to see more from Lynch (more TP or whatever else he'd like to do), but I'd really love to see other artists get this kind of deal--total artistic control, no network interference, series written and directed like a giant movie by a single auteur. To me, it's the fulfillment of what the medium can be--i.e. absolutely anything! I'd just love to see TPTR set a precedent and if there's anything we, as viewers, can do to encourage that, I say we should do it.

If there is a season 4, it must have at least Lynch or Frost but I don't think they feel the need to explain anything else. (I am quite happy with the interpretations we can have personally).

Anything else Frost had to say, he wrote it in the books and it was about things that happened before season 3.

Honestly, I don't think I want another season. Season 2 and FWWM were not meant to be finishing points but the revival was conceived as an actual ending.

Interesting that it's Fenn at the centre of that story. If anyone's story was definitively ended by the Return, I would have thought it was Audrey's.

If there is a season 4 and the Audrey story gets picked up and follows on from where we left it, I will be extremely disappointed. It is as perfect and aesthetically pleasing an ending as anyone could want right where it is.
As a matter of fact, 'Chalfont' was the name of the people that rented this space before. Two Chalfonts. Weird, huh?

Isn't there a chance this would have the opposite effect? If you're Showtime, why go and spend all that money and effort again if you know it's only for a temporary bump in subscriptions?
