Goodbye

Re: RIP Harry Dean Stanton
I heard the sad news this morning. Absolute tragedy. A great actor, who has inspired me so much over the years. I first saw him in Wild At Heart, in the early 90s when I was still at school. I hope his role as Carl Rodd in Season 3 will be seen as a fitting and noble ending to such a great career in film and television.
God bless Harry Dean Stanton.
God bless Harry Dean Stanton.

RIP Harry, and thanks for the work you did.
As a matter of fact, 'Chalfont' was the name of the people that rented this space before. Two Chalfonts. Weird, huh?

Re: RIP Harry Dean Stanton
Anybody seen The Missouri Breaks? It's a Brando/Nicholson starrer from the '70s, apparently an overindulgent western that tanked. I read all the Sailor & Lula novels last year, and in one of them, Barry Gifford pays tribute to HDS by mentioning his supporting performance in this movie as being great.

I adore the photo from the 70s accompanying this piece:

In the 2012 documentary Partly Fiction, Stanton answered some deep questions from his friend and colleague, director David Lynch. His answers were sort of Buddhist and very Harry Dean Stanton. Asked to describe himself, he responded, "Nothing. There is no self." Asked how he wanted to be remembered, his answer was, "Doesn't matter."
Happy Trails, Harry...

Very sad news

I believe all these phenomena that our putted-up egos and busy ant minds persist in trying to label, categorize, penetrate, and comphrehend, all spring from this same uncanny source. This is the mother of all "others".

This is - excuse me - a damn fine cup of coffee.
Re: RIP Harry Dean Stanton
Fondly remember many nights drinking around him at Dan Tana's in the early 2000s. Once we even ended up at the same afterhours club in South Central LA at 4am -- me in my twenties, broke and dateless; he in his late 70s, with a beautiful young woman on each arm. Legend.
