David Lynch UK Conference 2009 Oct 30th -Nov 1st
One of cinema's most compelling and innovative directors, David Lynch remains a major influence on contemporary art, film and culture. In this landmark event, Tate Modern brings together leading artists, academics and writers from around the world to offer a series of new perspectives on Lynch's films.
Artists and theorists will discuss Lynch's work in a range of theoretical and artistic contexts, including psychoanalysis, philosophy, prosthetics and photography. Speakers will include the composer Angelo Badalamenti, who has collaborated with Lynch on films such as Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive, as well as the visual artists Gregory Crewdson, Daria Martin, and Jane and Louise Wilson. There will be contributions from the writers and academics Parveen Adams, Sarah Churchwell, Simon Critchley, Roger Luckhurst, Tom McCarthy, and Jamieson Webster. A specially commissioned video interview with Lynch himself will also be screened, and an accompanying film programme will take place at Tate Modern and the Birkbeck Cinema.

If there is a Q&A with Badalementi, would one of our UK friends ask him about the OOP status of the original soundtrack and the possibility of a complete box set, a complete FWWM set and the music to 'On The Air'.

Wow! I'll be booking a ticket for this for sure.
I'm guessing there won't be a Q&A, given there's no mention of this on the site (and I reckon that would be a major selling point for many), and the number of people giving talks. My guess: it'll be the weirdest conference not to be organised by Disinformation.

I will book my tickets on Monday!

My god.. I haven't posted in AGES!!
Just popping by to say that I booked my ticket the day before yesterday as soon as I saw the announcement on the news page. I can't wait.
I love Gregory Crewdson's work and just bought his book a few months ago... so that's definitely an added bonus for me!

I've got my ticket.
There's no mention of Angelo Badalamenti on the Tate website, in the blurb or the schedule. Presumably he cancelled and they've edited him out?
Tate puts podcasts of its events on iTunes so the Lynch symposium might be available to download at some point.

Re: David Lynch UK Conference 2009 Oct 30th -Nov 1st
I was looking forward to seeing Angelo Badalamenti but couldn't get my head around what he'd be doing at a symposium about the Lynchian body. Having a guest speaker answering questions about whether a complete FWWM CD will be released (for example) would be massively dumbed down by Tate standards.
I've been hoping this symposium will lead to an exhibition of DL's work at Tate modern. The temporary exhibition space isn't very Lynchian but they could build something bespoke in the turbine hall, a la The Air Is On Fire.

I've sent the promoter that originally contacted me about the event. I'll see if I can get the scop on Angelo. Angelo had agreed to do an interview for Dugpa.com to promote the Season 2 CD Release. I came up with a bunch of questions and exchanged several emails with him. Then out of nowhere, he stopped responding to my emails.

B, I remember you telling me that. Such a shame really as there are so many interesting questions to ask him. Oh well, someone will corner him eventually!

If it's any consellation Brian, I tried to get in contact with him for my dissertation and didn't even get a reply. So you got further than some!
Re: David Lynch UK Conference 2009 Oct 30th -Nov 1st
OK. Got the scoop. Badalamenti had a scheduling conflict and had to drop out of the conference.
Yeah, but I think what sucks is that being a HUGE fans for so many years, I would have expected a simple "I've thought it over and have decided not to go forward with an interview at this time." Rather than zero response AFTER him agreeing to do the interview AND after coming up with all the questions and sending them to him.
I still love the music, but sometimes I feel rather disappointed with the lack of support the site gets from some of the celebrities that I've tried to get interviews with... Or rather some of the celebrities that agreed to do interviews and then decided to stop responding to emails.
