TMC Silent Film Fest has come to TV.
I saw the 1914 Cecil B. Demille The Squaw Man ( of little artistic or even historical interest);
The current and most complete restoration of Fritz Lang's Metropolis . lol, the holy grail of archivists. I find it amusing that they still do not know the original projection speed. Surely all the scenes are not supposed to unroll like fractured flickers on amphetamine;
D.W. Griffith Birth of A Nation, Imo, it is foolish to demonize a great artist who,when all is said and done, was merely a man of his time( okay, 6 or 7 years ahead of his time, cinema-wise.) This was the tinted 1921 reissue. A remarkable achievment.

Call Her Savage
I figured it'd be like Ramona.
Well, guess not.
Clara Bow is sensational in this role, perhaps because her character is a moody, bipolar beauty. I've seen Wings, but had no idea she could Act.
The history of how this lurid, sexy film got made in 1032( pre-code or not) is interesting and to be found by googling.

Devil Dog: Hounds of Hell. My sis and I are getting ready for Halloween early. There are just too many creepy films to watch. This one was more funny than scary though. Unintentionally.

"The Asphyx" - a British horror from 1972, starring Robert Powell. Unintentionally funny in parts, but this is still far better than most equivalent films today. I hope the rumour's not true that they're going to re-make it.

Melancholia , the most interesting film I've seen this year. Kirsten Dunst has the role of a lifetime here.

Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (US version).

Urgh. Not really that impressed tbh. I hadn't read the book or seen the original film, but I still knew exactly who 'did' it almost from the start. I also thought Rooney Mara was cardboard, and her character totally uninteresting.

Daniel Craig was probably the best thing about it (surprisingly). Actually no... the scenery was the best thing about it.

The whole thing felt disjointed (in the bad way), predictable and pantomime-like. I don't know how subtle the book may be, but this whole idea of Nazis as the bad guys is getting very tired because I keep thinking I'm watching The Sound of Music for grown-ups.

Also, it the violence was gratuitous. I didn't feel that most of it was necessary nor added anything to the film. And this is coming from someone who thinks Blue Velvet is a masterpiece.

Sometimes I think David Lynch has spoiled my film-viewing experience

Tree Of Life.
While I liked the movie and applaud its scope and ambition, it shares the same flaws as The New World, that is self indulgence, under-writing and slooww pacing.
Joanna Going still looks smashing in her brief appearance.
