Re: Parts 3 + 4 (SPOILERS)
I think only the beginning syncs up - the rest in the purple world is just coincidence and the usual magic that takes place when you combine unrelated video/audio and our brains try to make sense of it.
Now if you'll excuse me, I gotta go dig out "Dark Side of the Moon"

I assumed that Mother's banging was her heart beat; Coop being in a womb-like pre-rebirth vestibule & all.

Re: Parts 3 + 4 (SPOILERS)
Based on nothing more than a hunch I predict we will finally see the following things in this weeks episode
- The Double R diner
- Norma and Bid Ed (Possibly Nadine)
- Shelly again and possibly her daughter
- More of South Dakota murder
I don't think we will see Audrey yet or more of the Hornes but I could be wrong.

The milk will get cool on you pretty soon.
Re: Parts 3 + 4 (SPOILERS)
Yeah, I too have a hunch that we'll see a scene in the RR this weekend.
This is - excuse me - a damn fine cup of coffee.

Re: Parts 3 + 4 (SPOILERS)
The two men in Rancho Rosa? I'm not so sure they were there to kill Dougie (or Coop). We see one of them with a sniper rifle but they are also equipped with tracking devices, and when they assume he must still be inside the house, they just put one of those devices on his car. If they wanted to kill him, why not just at least check the house?Normonaut wrote:The main reason I think Dougie's life may not have been real, is how his kid reacts to GoodCoop.
First of all he gives a thumbs up from the hallway when Cooper touches his old gun shot wound, just like the waiter.
Second of all he doesn't say anything, you'd think a kid would talk more around breakfast, especially if his father was suddenly changed. (I supposedly cried when my dad shaved his mustache )
Third he keeps guiding Cooper, pulls out chair, sits him down, shows him how to eat. All while chuckling quietly.
Fourth, the kid looks nothing like any of the parents. The difference isn't so huge that you'd automatically go "ok what's going on, why is the kid black" (for example), but big enough to give you that feeling of something being... off.
Add that to all the other weird stuff going on (wife hardly reacting to his behaviour, random dude suddenly appearing at the casino telling him his name and address etc) and I think we're on to something?
Maybe Dougie was real, he was the target of an assassination after all, but maybe the life GoodCoop is being led into was not actually Dougie's life.
Re: Parts 3 + 4 (SPOILERS)
I saw the device as a bomb, not just a tracker.somevelvetmorning wrote: The two men in Rancho Rosa? I'm not so sure they were there to kill Dougie (or Coop). But it is hollywood, so who knows?

I thought it would be too small to be a bomb. It is being put on the gas tank though, and as you say, it is Hollywood.wxray wrote:I saw the device as a bomb, not just a tracker.somevelvetmorning wrote: The two men in Rancho Rosa? True, lol. Well, I guess we'll definitely spend some time in Rancho Rosa but a scene in the Diner would be much appreciated.mtwentz wrote:RR has 3 meanings nowPanapaok wrote:Yeah, I too have a hunch that we'll see a scene in the RR this weekend.

SO I was simply going to post "Wouldn't 'Atom Heart Mother' be more appropriate?", but I figured I'd try it first. If you start the song when the "SHOWTIME PRESENTS" is at its brightest, you end up with quite a few "holy cow that was perfect" moments. Worth a try if you have 23 minutes to spare. If you get a "wow" moment when Cooper lands you'll know you have it synced correctly. Please someone try this, I don't want to be the only one.Saturn's child wrote:I assumed that Mother's banging was her heart beat; Coop being in a womb-like pre-rebirth vestibule & all.

Re: Parts 3 + 4 (SPOILERS)
I see what you're saying, but surrealism does suggest a coherent form of storytelling with Lynch because for him our dreams reflect the individual and our external reality. Absurdism plays a role in his art too, so sometimes things happen for no reason, true, but for such a large element of the story to be absurd seems improbable to me.Jerry Horne wrote:Well if it is a manufactured reality then anything is possible. Lynch is a surrealist after all.Wonderful & Strange wrote:I don't think Rancho Rosa is a manufactured reality. Why would drug addicts be living there?
Let's say Rancho Rosa is a manufactured reality. That suggests someone manufactured it intentionally. That's what the word "manufacture" implies. This tells us there's nothing random or absurdist about it.
If it were manufactured, who would be the maker and what would the reason for making be?
We have to ask what's the purpose of Rancho Rosa on the show so far? Well, it's just a suburban community that has yet to become a community. That means drugs addicts can live there and prostitutes can turn tricks there.
This could serve criminal forces, I suppose, like Bad Coop. But would criminal forces even need to supernaturally manufacture a place for such a purpose? I don't see why they would.
Or maybe if it's all a dream, then Cooper has dreamed this place up for some reason? Dreams = our unconscious desires. Deep down his unconscious desires a secret coupling with Jade and his imagination believes that such a neighborhood would have drug addicts living in it?
Some of that actually makes sense, but then we also have Coop literally, not figuratively, being reborn back into the world here. This suggests to me Rancho Rosa is a real place and that it's meant to be ironic that Good Coop is reborn into such a terrible place.
