Hi! Beautiful work, bravo! I am a French poster, so I hope my English is correct.

One guess about "Hawk goes to Glastonbury Grove, receives call from Log Lady."
It may happen, in fact, at the end of Episode 7, when we see the woods (same establishing shot), and then it cuts suddenly to the RR.

It explains that Hawk doesn't go to see Margaret to take tea, because it will happen in one of the future episodes. Note also that the scene cuts, with Hawk in the woods, white light on the camera... And then, next scene with Hawk, he is searching what is missing in the files in the conference room, which looks more like a reaction to the first call from Margaret ("something is missing"). The second call in the woods would fit rather well after the discovery of the Missing pages from Laura's diary. Hawk reads about "The Good Dale is in the Black Lodge", and then goes to Glastonbury Grove at the end of Day 8.

I have the feeling, also, that episode 1 & 2 could happen in only 2 days. But some elements of Day 2 are shown in episode 1, and some elements of Day 1 are shown in Episode 2. Also, Lynch/Frost may play little games with the Time Zone. I don't know it well in USA, so I may be wrong, but could it be still day in Washington State (the end of the day of course) and already night in New York?

So, for ep1 & 2, maybe it goes like this:

D1 Day - TP - Jacoby and shovels EP1
D1 Night in NY - Tracey can't go in EP1
D1 Day - TP - Ben & Jerry, Lucy and insurance man EP1
D1 Day - Buckhorn - Ruth Davenport body is discovered EP1
D1 Day - Buckhorn - Bill Hastings is arrested, something is discovered in his car EP1
D1 Night - Mister C. & Buella EP1
D1 Night - TP -Margaret calls Hawk "something is missing" EP1
D1 Night - Buckhorn - The Hastings argue in the cell, the Woodsman appears, Mr C. kills Mrs Hastings EP2
D1 Night - Mister C. at the dinner with Ray, Darya and Jack EP2
D2 Day - TP - Hawk says to Andy and Lucy that "something is missing" and ask them to help him EP1
D2 Day - Mr C. kills Jack EP2
D2 Night - LV - Todd "she has the job" EP2
D2 Night - Mr C. kills Darya, talks to Jeffries, talks with Chantal about a meeting with Hutch EP2
D2 Night - TP - Sarah Palmer watch TV, James & Shelly at the Roadhouse EP2
D2 Black Lodge - Cooper sees the OAM, Laura, EOTA, Leland… EOTA's Doppelgänger screams "non-existent" and Cooper is out EP2
D2 Night - NY - Cooper appears in the box, the Experiment kills Sam and Tracey EP1+EP2

D8 Night - TP - Hawk goes to Glastonbury Grove after the discovery of Laura's pages about The Black Lodge and the Good Dale EP1/EP7

And, there is the Giant scene in black & white...

I likè the thoughts of Hawk/Glastonbury Grove being set in future episodes. It would make more sense why the scene wasn't resolved yet.

As more episodes are released and we get confirmation I'll adjust the timeline.

Re: Season 3 Timeline (SPOILERS)

There's been some theories about a non linear chronological representation of events... we've seen one confirmed example with Coop ending up in the glass box before Sam and Tracy encounter The Experiment. We can dismiss the Dougie/Coop theory since the key chronologically connects those scenes at least to the Ben Horne scenes. But I'm wondering if there still might be something at play here with regards to the Evil Cooper/Buckhorn scenes.

It's still unclear what happened with the Woodsman resurrection scene. Was Bob being separated from him? And if so, is Bob now free to possess Bill Hastings? The only thing we have connecting the Buckhorn scenes to anything from the other storylines was that Evil Cooper showed up to kill Bill Hasting's wife, but the timing of that was kind of odd. Evil Cooper was with Ray and Daria, and then there's this kind of isolated scene where he shows up at the Hastings house, and then we see him back with Ray and Daria. He could have gone off to do something by himself, but I don't recall anything from his Ray and Daria scenes that alludes to him going off to the Hasting's home. There is also seemingly the connection that Evil Coop has some interest in information that Hastings' secretary has, but we don't know more than that, so this could be something he was interested in before Hastings was possessed. The latest thing we have in the Buckhorn timeline was Colonel Davis making a phone call to the FBI, which we don't see the other end of. This would place it timeline wise to the FBI investigations of the Evil Cooper scenes. We'll see how this all plays out, but there's obviously a bit more to tell about the Bill Hastings story which we haven't revisited in several episodes.

Yes, great post! I feel the same.

When we understand in episode 8 that Ray works with Phillip to kill Mister C., suddenly I imagined one theory: what if Dougie Jones is the future of Mister C. ?

After that scene in episode 8, where BOB is taken off Cooper's body, Cooper doppelgänger is now another kind of man. He is not The Good Dale, but he is not BOB neither. He finds the Owl Cave Ring that he wants so much. He changes his looks and becomes Dougie Jones (in some strange, magical way ?!). Then, Phillip finds him and send new killers on his track (the snipers). And finally, The Good Dale is send back on earth and exchanged with his Doppelgänger-Dougie.

That would mean that there always have been only one Cooper "body" on earth, the doppelganger with BOB, the doppelganger as Dougie Jones, and then The Good Dale.

Re: Season 3 Timeline (SPOILERS)

I think Lynch has definitely been playing loosely with time even just in the editing process. For example in Part 5 there was a scene with Tammy Preston looking at finger prints. That didn't pay off until Part 7. I'd assume a decent amount of time passed in some of the other story lines. Was Tammy staring at those prints for a couple of days before bringing it to Gordon and Albert? Since the episodes weren't written as individual episodes, it seems as though Lynch has felt free to find room for certain scenes that don't strictly adhere to a chronological order of events.

And obviously there's at least one confirmed instance of a genuine intentionally non-linear use of time. This is something Lynch loves to play with in general, so it would hardly be surprising if there were more examples down the road. I'm not sure if the Hastings story is one example, but I'm not seeing any direct reason it wouldn't be. The scene where the Doppelganger shoots Hastings' wife seems dropped in the middle of the Doppelganger/Ray and Darya story. It is known the Doppelganger is interested in Hastings when he's with Ray and Darya, but there could be reasons why they could have been interested in him before the murder. At this point we still don't know how or why Hastings got involved in that, so explaining the early interest in him could explain that as well.

If the theories that Dougie/Coop and the Doppelganger are different timelines of the same physical character is to work, the real Dougie Jones has to be explained. What exactly happened when this overweight version of Cooper was sucked into the Lodge and the thinner Cooper wearing the clothes he disappeared in came out? Why did the One Armed Man say he was manufactured for a purpose? It makes little sense if Dougie Jones is the same physical character as Dougie/Coop or the Doppelganger. It makes sense if doppelgangers that are different physical characters can be manufactured. Granted, it could also be a classic Lynchian non sequitur, but Lynch doesn't typically use those to mislead.

Part 5 and Part 7 was only the difference of Day 7 and Day 8.

Interestingly, Part 3 was the start of Day 6. We have only progressed 3 days in the last 5 parts.

Re: Season 3 Timeline (SPOILERS)

Post by oxyboldine »

Thanks to the great job done by Hockey Mask, the timeline thing is turning me into a detective!

So, I thought some of you might be interested by one possible version of the timeline... It's just a bunch of theories! We will see if all of it works in the next episodes.

My guess is that it is all about "Is It Future, or Is It Past?", and "Time and Time Again". Those two sentences are said at the very beginning of each Black Lodge scenes in episode 2.
That is why I thought that season 3 may be cut in two halfs: one is past, the other is present.

Past: Mister C., The Buckhorn Case, New York, The FBI quartet
Present : Twin Peaks, The Good Dale, Las Vegas

The link between them maybe the scene in episode 8, where Mister C. has Bob taken off him. Maybe he then turns into a Doppleganger, and finds a new identity to escape from Phillip Jeffries killers: he becomes Dougie Jones. It works with the timeline of Jeffries: Phillip wants to be "with Bob again" (Part 2), but Cooper escapes from the call of the Lodge (Part 3, so Mister C would see his future self, Dougie, in fact), then Phillip asks Ray to kill Cooper. Ray fails, so Phillip sends new snipers to kill Cooper-Dougie, with the help of Mr Todd in Las Vegas.

Maybe it doesn't work at all, but I just wanted to propose this timeline to you. Who knows? Maybe it will help to find other new theories!

The "Is it future or is it past?" sentence gave me other ideas: first, that part 1 and 2 shows us many things from the "future". The first scenes in Twin Peaks may happen during Day 3.
- Jacoby receives the shovels... why wouldn't he paint then immediately? In Part 3, he paints them, and he has the same clothes, the weather is also the same.
- In the scene with Lucy and the Insurance man, Lucy wears the same clothes as in Part 3. Maybe the first scenes in Twin Peaks of Part 1 goes like this: Day 3 - Day 2 - Day 1.
- The New York shows us more obviously that effect of "time and time again" + "is it future or is it past?"
- And, there is the Glastonbury Grove scene. I am really convinced that this scene happens at Day 5 (end of Part 7). First, because Hawk never goes to take the tea with Margaret as he promised. Also, it makes sense that he has the idea to come back to Glastonbury after the discovery of the missing pages from Laura's Diary, about The Black Lodge. It's in that scene where he talks to Frank Truman (beginning of Part 7) about all that, that Hawk really understands that the Good Dale may till be trapped at Glastonbury Grove, under the sycamore trees.

Well, that is for the "is it future or is it past?" For the other sentence, "Time and time again", it well applies with the theory about Part 5 and Part 7, restarting the days of Part 4 and Part 6. I propose, in my timeline, that Part 1 and 2 do that a lot in themselves. Like a spiral. At the beginning, it turns back very quickly. And, slowly, the timeline gets more and more "normal". Maybe, in the next episodes, past and present will meet, and Time will stop to repeat itself!

So, I used the great work done by Hockey Mask, to applie all those theories. I hope you'll enjoy it! And I hope my english is correct (French poster here). Thanks.

I agree that there has to be something to "Is it future or is it past?" How we get there I have no idea.

That didn't pay off until Part 7. I'd assume a decent amount of time passed in some of the other story lines. Was Tammy staring at those prints for a couple of days before bringing it to Gordon and Albert?
Part 5 and Part 7 was only the difference of Day 7 and Day 8.

Interestingly, Part 3 was the start of Day 6. We have only progressed 3 days in the last 5 parts.
Yes, this. Lynch may be playing with time, but mostly in the sense of how we the viewers perceive it. As you said, only three days have passed since part 3, but because we have to wait a week for every new Part, and because we are used to time passing more quickly in other TV shows, we automatically assume that more time has passed, or that Lynch is taking forever to return to certain storylines. He's not taking forever at all; rather, the show has so much going on that barely any time is passing, and we return to each storyline at the exact moment we need to within the story's very tight timeline. Grasping the way time passes is very much a key to getting into the show, imo.

Yes, the dates may also prove that (Mister C. is arrested in part 3 and in part 4 we learn that it happened the 22/9, but Andy's watch shows the 10th in part 7 = two timelines?).

The wardrobe may helps too. Lucy's clothes with the insurance man in Part 1 are the same as with Hawk in the conference room later in Part 1: it may prove that the 2 scenes are on Day 2, whereas the editing make us think it is 2 different days. If Lucy changes her clothes everyday, it would prove that the editing of Part 1-2 is going non-chronological.

Same in Part 3, she has a pink sweater (the bunnies scene). In part 4, she has the same pink sweater, a small detail that proves that those scenes with Frank, Bobby Briggs, Chad & Wally, happen later at night the same day (Day 3).

Of course, there was the same thing in Part 4 and Part 5, with the clothes of the Jones family, that proved that their breakfast and the scene at the front-door happens in continuity, before Dougie goes to Lucky7.

Yes, maybe Lynch is taking is time, by repeating "time and time again" + mixing past timeline and present timeline:
- Part 1-2 repeat Day 1 and Day 2 several times and may also show some scenes from the future (Day 3 with Jacoby, Day 5 with Hawk at Glastonbury)/ Same effect with the Past scenes, Day 1 and Day 2 are shown in a chaotic way
- Part 3 shows Day 3 for Present and Past
- Part 4 shows Day 4 for Present and Past
- Part 5 repeats Day 4 for Present and Past
- Part 6 shows Day 5 for Present and Past
- Part 7 continues Day 5 for Present and Past
- Part 8 continues Day 5 for Past, maybe Present (or maybe the NIN concert is from the past?), then goes deep into the Past to 1945

So, Part 9 seems to take place on 9/29 (Frank Truman says 10/01 is 2 days away; Bill Hastings dates his ID of Major Briggs as what appears to be "9/20," but people have speculated it's actually just a sloppy/cut-off "9/29").

Yeah, I think the sloppy 29 theory is probably right--as he writes the date, he enunciates "nine" and "twenty" pretty clearly, but there is also a mumbled extra syllable after "twenty" that could definitely be "nine."

All the dates we've been using were based on the 9/22 on COOPER's arrest report. While the number of days that go by before COOPER is arrested and Coop replaces Dougie in Vegas are somewhat ambiguous, I don't really see how several extra days could have occurred at any point since then--despite the slow pace, the plotting has actually been quite tight.

I guess the police report (which was never featured and contained a wildly inaccurate birthdate for Coop anyway) must have been wrong.

I say we edit the timeline, using the same number of days, but back-dating it from 9/29. So, if Day 9 is 9/29, Day 1 would be 9/21.

As far as Andy's watch, my guess is it's just set incorrectly. It could be that the hit-and-run plot-line was originally planned to happen later and they moved it up, and if that's the case, it's fine. Andy having a watch with the wrong date isn't exactly unrealistic.

With COOPER's call to Mr. Todd, pretty much all of the potential readings requiring multiple timelines have been eliminated. The only one that still remains vaguely arguable is that everything happening in Twin Peaks is happening before or after everything else (for example, it could be a year earlier or later than every other timeline, or, if someone wants to argue that Bill did in fact write 9/20, a few days later), but I have a feeling that will soon be nipped in the bud as well.

Yes, the scene with Mr Todd seems to prove that the multiple timelines theory doesn't work, as Mister C. asks him to eliminate Dougie. Dougie and Mister C. exist at the same time (and that's fascinating). Regarding the Twin Peaks scenes, they must take place around the same times too: the key send by Jade arrives some days later at the Great Northern.

Nevertheless, new little things in Part 9 made me wonder about a "tricky" timeline, despite Mr Todd's scene. So I'll continue to be "Mister Multiple Timeline" just for fun. :D

- First scene with Lucy, she has a white shirt with red pattern, and red and blue wool sweater (around 22'00). Next scene with Lucy, different clothes: blue sweater and another shirt (another pattern on the collar) (35'00). Did the episode showed us 2 different days? Did the ellipse occured in the black cut after Jerry's hallucinations?

- So Frank Truman says the 10/1 and the 10/2 are "two days from now, and the day after". It means that Andy's watch was set badly, or that we came back in the past since Part 7. Hawk still have not mentionned his visit to Glastonbury Grove, even now that they are reading Brigg's indications. Once again, maybe that scene in Part 1 happens after that new discovery.

- At the end we see once again Au Revoir Simone, which was already on part 4... Did they came back to the Roadhouse some days after, or are we in the past? It is also in Part 4, the evening before (on the first part of the episode, before sunrise, that Bobby mentions her mother Betty knowing something about Cooper. So, it is possible that the scene with Betty happens the same day that Part 4, the day after Bobby's speech to Hawk & Frank, and before the Au Revoir Simone concert.

Actually I don't stand for one theory more than another! It's just those little details, it keeps making you wonder...

After all, maybe there is 3 timelines but with a very small shift? Mister C.'s timeline, Dougie's timeline, and Twin Peaks timeline are maybe separated by a few days only. Maybe Andy's watch was rightly set in Part 7, but that the Twin Peaks scenes are secretly edited in a strange way.
