Becky's still at the trailer, when in Part 11 she was going to move out. So either we missed a big development in the Briggs family plotline, or this takes place before the scenes in Part 11.

Wouldn't it be better if we cancelled it as soon as it ends to show that we require Season 4 to remain subscribers?sycamore wrote: Hey everyone that can, keep your subscriptions for at least a few months after Twin Peaks ends. Showtime is banking on our continued subscriptions. If they see a huge drop off right after part 18, they'll figure that Twin Peaks got their numbers up for a few months but there was no retention. No retention is way worse than low ratings. High numbers now coupled with high retention = offering Lynch a shot at season 4.

"The first thing we need to do is get you out of that trailer." Shelly's a domestic violence survivor. Carl has told her they hear fighting in the trailer and Becky just lost it and grabbed a gun to go after Steven. Oh, and Becky was really obviously lying when Bobby asked her point blank if Steven hit her. (And Bobby could also tell that was a lie.) Shelly meant "staying with me tonight so we can move you somewhere more permanent tomorrow."vicksvapor77 wrote:Huh? She only says "you're staying with me tonight." And if Becky changed her mind after that, Shelly would not be so cheerful at her moaning about Steven after that. Because Shelly's an abuse survivor who has reason to believe Steven's abusive. This scene HAS to take place before Carl told her that there was fighting in the trailer, or something weird is going on with time.

With all the money Dougie has won, the logic reaction would be to just give the money and save her husband's life. But because she's greedy, because she WANTS more, she decides to negociate, in order to take profit from what Dougie has won. Which is pretty logic now we know her love of big, fancy car. And the gangster themselves are more reasonnable and wise than her -- like the Mitchum brothers. Gangsters are less greedier than her and prefer to letting go. She's the gangster in the scene, that's the irony of the thing when she's screaming "you're why this world is shit". And she continues to be the gangster in the next parts. And Dougie is her client.Skip Bittman wrote:It's more that she's outraged about the HUGE interest they tacked on above and beyond what Dougie owed.Jacob wrote:sylvia_north wrote: Oh, she's greedy. About the pics, sycamore, you have to save it and watch them the one after the other in order to see the unnatural movement...

If Lynch wanted to show us unnatural movement, that scene would've been terrifying. It's not like he doesn't have the ability to unnerve us. It was about a sad old man being alone, not reflections of passing cars.
That rant about Janey-E makes no sense to me. Is it that you haven't been married? She's on his side. His money = their money. Sonny Jim needs it more than gangsters need ridiculous interest. It was a negotiating tactic, and it worked.

How is that logical? If she would allow these gangsters to have however much money they want from her, they can always come back and demand even more from her. Since they know she´s afraid of them and will do whatever they say, they can threaten her. So she decided to draw a line in the sand.Jacob wrote:With all the money Dougie has won, the logic reaction would be to just give the money and save her husband's life. I plan on cancelling showtime after TP ends. I watched all 6 seasons of homeland to get my moneys worth. it was entertaining, some neat cliffhangers, but generally it was just trash tv, i'll try a fewyaxomoxay wrote:Let's spread the rumor and make viral that if the season ends with "To Be Continued - Season 4 - Fall 2018" we will all keep our subscriptionsycamore wrote:point, counterpoint. let's get some more opinions!oldforce wrote:

other shows, but TP only one that really excites me.
Re: Part 13 - What story is that, Charlie? (SPOILERS)
I don't buy it, man. Janey-E has a preoccupation with their cars being terrible. If she were greedy and wanted the money for herself, she'd use it to buy herself a better car and rationalize it. She didn't, and when faced with insurance company over the loss of Dougie's car she advocated using it to buy a modest vehicle and saving the jackpot. Why?Jacob wrote:With all the money Dougie won, the logic reaction would be to just give the money and save her husband's life. "That money is for Sonny Jim and our future."
She clearly wants to save the 400k for COLLEGE MONEY for her son. That's why she's not spending it. If she was greedy, she'd have bought a new car herself, or at least suggested that Dougie use the station wagon and they use the jackpot and the insurance money for a new car. But no, her priority of a new car is not enough to break into that jackpot. Because it's for her son.
She wasn't willing to give the whole set of money to the loan sharks because it is clear they are NOT mafia guys, they are two loser loan sharks. If she gives them that logic, that speech and gives them the full 52K they will see they can get as much as they want, that the Joneses have access to that money, and they will continue to prey on Dougie, a man with a drinking and a gambling problem. They will approach him and offer him more money, and get back into this hole and bleed their family dry.
But if she makes a BIG DEAL about how little money they have, and gives them the entirety of the loan back with modest interest... They make a profit, but get the impression they won't be able to get a profit next time they loan to this guy. And there's a chance they leave him alone or turn him away next time.
And being criminals, they likely don't want to risk an injury or a murder that will attract police attention. Like the guy's extremely loud, fearless, self-righteous wife calling the police after they assault him.
Janey-E did something clever, and didn't give in to panic or fear that these guys were using. She sized them up, she thought about the situation logically, and she came up with a solution that had a good chance of keeping them away from her husband in the future. A much better chance than them finding out they can get whatever they want.
You may think it was too big a risk, but the idea that she took that risk out of greed and materialism does not hold with her actions in Part 7.

HA! This sums up a LOT of the people trying to make sense of the new Twin Peaks. Every person is becoming like the guys from the The Shining documentary in their search for the truth. It's fun though!sewhite2000 wrote:Sigh.
People went insane about the flashing windows on the airplane. People went insane over the glitch as Tammy walks down the hall toward Gordon's motel room door. People went insane over Miriam's last name being different on the envelope than in the closing credits.
How many of these have ever been referenced again or turned out to have any significant meaning in the show?
Why, then, is everyone sure that a little oddity in Ed's reflection is The Most Significant Moment in Television History?
Re: Part 13 - What story is that, Charlie? (SPOILERS)
I'm perplexed by those that view Janey-E as greedy and evil. Like, seriously? The original Dougie seemed to have been a terrible husband - is it that strange for her to be happy about things turning around for the better?
No, she's not my favourite character, yeah, she can be kind of annoying. But greedy and evil? Nope nope nope.
