Re: NO SPOILERS: Twin Peaks Season 3 on Showtime May 21st 2017

For me, turning it into a (rather lame) "clue" cheapens a beautiful Lynch non sequitir. That said, I do agree that Wise's childlike delivery of the line is a thing of beauty. So much of Episode 16 is salvaged for me largely due to Mr. Wise's tremendous talent and brilliant acting choices....

Re: NO SPOILERS: Twin Peaks Season 3 on Showtime May 21st 2017

Well, then there are those of us who don't have Showtime and are unlikely to get Showtime for various reasons and are also unlikely to be able to avoid the sure to be thorough spoilers once the series is released, in which case all of it will be spoiled which somehow seems like the ultimate and appr...

Re: is there any other show that even comes close to your obsession with TP?

I forgot about Banshee but that somehow seems appropriate as it remains among the great underrated series of recent times. Still, its cult is solid and deserved and will likely only increase. Its overall success as far as I'm concerned is due in no small part to knowing exactly when it was time to s...

Re: [No spoilers] Level of excitement for the new characters?

Personally I'm expecting a broad mosaic ensemble approach (even more so than before) with no one other than Cooper really "standing out" as excessively prominent. I anticipate this being more like an epic film in that way with individual story strands feeding like tributaries into the larg...

Re: is there any other show that even comes close to your obsession with TP?

I've always disliked both Northern Exposure and Picket Fences , whether fairly or not. But what I disliked so much about them was the way in which they seemed to represent a retreat from the advance of "the show that changed TV" as Peaks was acknowledged to be then, taking the easy lessons...

Re: is there any other show that even comes close to your obsession with TP?

I love many shows deeply but probably The Prisoner is the only one that equals my ardent love of Peaks (they're also the only shows I've watched annually for decades). And for me The Prisoner goes even further back as I was introduced to it as a teen in the mid 80's with a gift of a couple of the ep...

The lack of Heather Graham would seem most mystifying of all (but one can expect that at least to be addressed).

Re: Twin Peaks Reunion in Entertainment Weekly

For what it's worth I don't think anyone cares about EW's opinions. It's funny though because one of my prize pieces of Peaks memorabilia from back in the day is the original 1990 EW Peaks dedicated issue with Lynch on the cover. I haven't broken that one out in awhile but I seem to recall that the...

Re: Least Favorite Storyline in Twin Peaks

Would've been remiss if I didn't contribute briefly to the Zane appreciation. Obviously I disagree that he's not charismatic enough on the show. But for me he's had a career overall much like that of Mickey Rourke or Stephen Dorff, where for whatever reason much time has been spent in very bad films...

The aesthetic at least will be different just because Deming is there now instead of Byers.

Re: The endings of Twin Peaks

I remember quite distinctly actually thinking that Andy was going to be revealed as the killer at the end of that slow pan across the conference table at the beginning of season 2. To reveal it in just such a casual kind of way seemed very possible for Lynch. I also vaguely remember that I never ent...

Re: Least Favorite Storyline in Twin Peaks

I picked the Little Nicky storyline mostly because of the terrible scene that ended it - Doc Hayward, Lucy, Dick and Andy in the conference room. Possibly the worst, most over the top and embarrassingly stupid scene of the entire series. Andy and Dick unconvincingly bawling their eyes out as if thi...

Re: Least Favorite Storyline in Twin Peaks

I've been recently rewatching the series synced up with the actual calendar dates, which has been a genuinely unusual and rewarding experience, but its also helped to make all this fresh again, so I'll go through this a bit at a time. I enjoy the Civil War stuff well enough for what it is and apprec...

Re: Recommendations for Watching While Waiting for Season 3

Bruno Dumont is one of the most provocative of contemporary directors (along with Von Trier and Noe) but as regards Lynch, little in his output comes closer to evoking those qualities than his Twentynine Palms , a terrifying vision of masculinity gone awry but handled in a way that sublimates that t...

Re: Recommendations for Watching While Waiting for Season 3

Absolutely agree with you on Ferrara. One of my favorite filmmakers too. I would especially add The Funeral and Mary to the list of titles you mentioned. Both of those are superb but too often overlooked. Also agree with you on Refn. I love his work and consider Neon Demon easily among the best film...
