I just listened to it again to make sure I'm not going crazy...and it's there, at least on the YT version (don't own the CD), but like I said, it's very, very quiet.

It happens just once, right between 1:16 and 1:17.

EDIT: I think I should mention that I can actually hear it a little bit better when the volume isn't turned up all the way.

I used to drive around with that CD blasting in my car, for years, and I remember this being there for sure.

There's nothing there - just music (two bass guitar sounds that can be taken for any words you want).

I'm not hearing it either. The throaty bowed bass jumps out at you at that time-stamp, but that's all I hear that resembles the "Black dog..." phrase.

I've worked in recording studios and designed loudspeakers, so I'm not a hack listener, fwiw. Fittingly, I'm the audio engineer whose theory "tickled" David Lynch in this article on Mulholland Dr.

I heard it. It is absolutely there on the version I have ripped onto my phone from the CD release many moons ago.

Wow. Great find.

Edit - now listened three more times and I can't un-hear it.

Does anyone know who composed Deer Meadow Shuffle? The notes and some comments on this youtube page have Lynch and David Slusser as the composer.

But I can't verify it anywhere. It sounds so much like a Badalamenti composition. But so do other Lynch and Slusser tracks.

i agree that it sounds very much like a Badalamenti piece.. David Slusser was definitely involved in it though, most likely it is him and David Lynch but Angelo might have had a hand in it as well. Slusser lists it among his credits on his official site:

http://www.davidslusser.com/cds/a/twin_ ... lk_with_me

EDIT - the team is the same as "Best Friends" according to that site, probably recorded at the same time and probably without any invovelement from Badalamenti then. Beautiful piece however!!

David Slusser -piano, David Cooper -vibes, Myles Boisen -guitar, Bill Fairbanks -bass, Donald "Duck" Bailey - drums,

Thanks for the info.

But the piece didn't get a separate credit for its use in Part 9. Wouldn't they at least have to credit Slusser at some point if he was the co-composer?
